Don't they have some kind of pre-tensioner on the seatbelts. The one time I had an airbag deploy I remember the seatbelt tightened up quite a bit across my chest. Makes me think that when you were hit the car tightened the seatbelts and since there was nobody in the passenger seat it made that tear

Yeah, there's a pre-tensioner that fires if a crash is detected. Thought they wouldn't go off if no one was in the seat, though.

By appearance alone, I would agree with you. The guy told me OEM parts for the exhaust system was $2200 by it's self. The car has Xpel on all of the area damaged and that alone may be as much as $1500 I'm told. I'm not worried about the body damage, but the electrical system and all the computer systems that run everything in the car have me worried.

I agree, it looks repairable. I have decided that I would ask the insurance company to get the electrical fixed first and if they can demonstrate that the car starts, runs and all the systems operate as they should, then fix the body and cosmetics. I don't remember if the car was in gear when he hit me or not. I expect some drive line damage could be another issue.

The body shop I asked for is the best anywhere around and they have fixed several of my cars with like hail damage and you couldn't find a flaw in anything they did. So, if they will give me a complete repair and reasonable diminished value, I would be ok with it. I just have seen cars with electrical gremlins that they were never able to fix, aka the C5 Corvette electrical ground issues.

I'm at a loss to to understand what caused the seat belt tensioner to do what it did. That is unless you're correct and it has an automatic tensioner when a G sensor determines there's a serious collision. But your theory makes more sense than any I can come up with. Thanks.

Personally I hate rear end wrecks but I wouldn't worry about a repaired car.. then again I repair salvage cars as a hobby.
Yeah, I've already got a guy who says he will buy it from the insurance company if they total it...lol.

Oh, here's where I heard the $2200 for the exhaust system alone. If that's so, I'm sure someone else's guess of $3500 isn't close.

No, airbags didn't deploy but the tow guy said it might be because of the electrical problems. I have no clue and just have to wait for the repair estimate.

Sorry to hear this.
I went through something similar in October.
F150 plowed into me while I was sitting at a red light, not this hard though, driver was uninsured.

My damage was less than this.
No trunk lid damage and no exhaust damage, and my repair was over $4000.

I'm sorry you were in a crash, but thankful you are alright!

For comparison: I was rear-ended toward the end of 2017 by a car doing 40mph, while sitting at a light, also. His car's damage was a nightmare, but my Camaro held up exceptionally well; very similar in damage to yours, in fact. Anyway, they wound up repairing mine, with a grand total of around $11,000 in damage. I sought diminished value, and received that, as well. Granted, mine is not a 1LE or an SS, so numbers will vary, obviously.

Well wishes, and I hope this all gets resolved soon enough!

They might anyways. Every car I've rebuilt now has had both fire if any airbag deployed, even if a passenger wasn't in the car.

3,500 isn't close. Airbags not going off is a good sign for it's future though. The smoke is a question mark.

Here's based on a repair estimate for another 2018 SS 1LE:
S1 86 102708 MCH REMOVE/REPLACE Rear Exhaust Muffler -M 84314681 2,440.24 1.6

So I was off by a couple hundred.. it's $2,440.
