Should I get The Carbon Hood Insert???

So I put my order in for a 2019 Satin Steel ZL1 Saturday! Coming from a C7 GS it should be quite a change. There were two items I'm still on the fence about and I have a couple of weeks to make a decision before production starts. The main one is the carbon insert for the hood. Who doesn't love some carbon fiber but I'm planning on wrapping or painting the side mirrors and spoiler Mosaic Black and I'm afraid the carbon insert will look out of place. I'm thinking the Mosaic Black insert will match and flow better with everything. What do you guys think?

Other thing was the sunroof. I want it to get some light in the car (love the targa top on the vette) but am worried about headroom as I'm 6'3" and with a helmet I might not fit. I prefer the way it looks from the outside without it tho. Nobody local has a Camaro with recaro seats with a sunroof for me to test my concern.

BTW the crazy prices on 2018s this month is making question if I should go grab one of those instead!

I have a 2018 ZL1 w/ all options. My ZL has Xpel & ceramic pro. Paint protection goes on the carbon fiber just like it would with the painted insert. The Hood & Dash C/F is a must have option in my opinion. I am 6-1 head clearance is not an issue. Girls like the sunroof & for me that was a must have. Venting to light with the sunroof it is a pretty cool option to have. PDR option?

Seen 18’s for $4-5k less compared to the 19’s. I don’t see paying the additional $’s for the rear end restyle and tech updates, but that’s just me. I luv a sunroof and use them often when a car has them, you should test fit with your height. Carbon looks good with any color on the outside. Ya can’t go wrong anyway you go, the car is phenomenal!

I would get CF myself...it's going to look wicked in the satin!!

Yeah, nix the sunroof for the headroom & keeping the reverse mohawk.

Get the CF insert. It adds a touch of elegance to the car. If you forgo the insert on the build and then change your mind later and try to purchase one as an after market part, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg. I don't think you'll regret having the CF insert.

I think the sunroof is more of a personal choice. Mine has it. It's nice but it was not one of my must haves. I would definitely see if you can find a 6th gen Camaro with a sunroof to test headroom with your helmet on before making a final decision.

It just looks better with the reverse mohawk. The factory sunroof looks like it a aftermarket piece with it coming out of the body when you have it open. Get all the CF bits, you will regret it later when you didn't optioned it with it.

All of the inserts are carbon fiber, regardless if you choose the painted or exposed option. If you already plan to go black anyways, might be a better option to have it painted..

Exposed CF will look bad ass too of course...all depends on what you really prefer!

Same boat as you, ordered satin steel vert a couple weeks ago. I got the CF insert.

And you’re right about the 2018 deals...unbelievable, that’s a good chunk o change off! Regardless, I’m sticking with my original order...

Personal I went with the Black painted insert. I think it looks better with my garnet red tintcoat. With the metallicin my red and the little bits of metallic in the black it looks great. The black might break up the gray a bit more too.

I am 6'1" and with no sunroof I just fit with my helmet on. Also plan to keep the car forever and don't want to worry about leaks or it needing repair. Plus I think the roof line looks better without the sunroof.

I was not going to order the carbon fiber insert with the NGM paint. Very happy that I changed my mind and did order it with. Looks great.

My $0.02. Worth every penny I charge.....

I vote Carbon Hood Insert with No Sunroof. The inverse mohawk roofline without the sunroof really adds presence to the car. With the sunroof, headroom loss is roughly 1.5" I'd guess. Carbon always looks better but it's up to you. I can see why you'd want all mosaic to match.

If your thinking about getting the Carbon Fiber add ons, I would get it or you will regret it. I have the sunroof, and I am almost 6'5", with that said expect no one to sit behind you. Drop the seat all the way down, move it all the way back and tilt it and you will be fine even with a helmet on. It also depends if you have a long torso or long legs. There is a whole thread on here some where about tall people. I would go to a dealership and sit in the different Camaro's to get an idea of what your comfortable with. I like the Sunroof for the extra airflow and light during nice days.
