Nitrous on a Stock '16 SS
I have a stock 2016 SS, with a manual 6 speed, and I'm planning to pull the trigger on a nitrous kit. I'm looking at the Nitrous Outlet kit with all the fixings (heater, opener, window switch, etc). It's been quite a while since I've dealt with nitrous but I recall having to adjust timing and replace the spark plugs. I've been reading through posts here but have several questions I was hoping to get some help with.
1.) From what I've read, a 100-150 shot is safe on this car without the need for additional modifications. Does anyone have information contrary to this? 2.) How do I adjust the timing on this car? The Nitrous Outlet WinMax controller states that it has two timing settings but am I correct in assuming that it doesn't actually adjust the timing, or does it? 3.) What plugs are recommended? 4.) Aside from plugs and timing, is there anything else that I'd need look into? 5.) How would this work with launch control? Would I need to adjust the window switch to not activate at all in 1st gear or is there another way to make sure that it doesn't spray during pre-launch? 6.) Where is everyone mounting their switches? I've seen a couple pictures of a switch panel that looks like it would go in the center consol, but can't seem to find anything for sale. I have a couple 3D printers so I can make my own panel if needed but would still like to find an inconspicuous place to mount everything. 7.) What about mounting the WinMax controller? Are there any recommendations on where to mount it? Thanks for the help! |

The 150shot I made about 6 passes. All in all I loved my nitrous kit and had no issues. I would be careful running the 150 without the Lingenfelter unit to control timing. But my AFR and fuel pressure stayed within safe ranges without it. If you are interested I have a full nitrous outlet kit I’m selling. Filled the bottle 4 times so it’s barely used. I went procharged. 150shot is a blast. I went with a custom pedal trigger. I can send you pictures of how to install the switch.

My SS is not stock but I am running Nitrous from 100-150. Planning to do at least a few 200 shoots then back to a lower number.
I retard my timing with the Lingenfelter LNC-2014 RPM Limiter Timing Retard Controller GM Gen V DI Engines LTI. I have tied in the launch controller with my line lock. So when I get in the box, I switch on the line-lock only to warm up the tires. I switch the switch to both launch mode with two step and line-lock at the line I have a stand-alone fuel system in the trunk to deliver the fuel. I use 110 octane in that system for the NOS which tuner recommended when using a larger shot. Last year I used a WOT TPS sensor, I am presently going to change it to a progressive delay box. Colder plugs, there are lots out there. I have an automatic opener which I highly recommend, I also have the auto pressure sensor for the heater which I also recommend. Purge system. I would say prefect your 100 shot before going larger. A proper tune from a good tuner is very important. Also, learn how to read plugs and pull them to look at them to determine how well they are working. Gap Gap Gap

For timing, what is the difference between the Lingenfelter LNC-2014 and a "hand held" tuner like the SCT/Bully Dog or Diablo Sport?
If I'm reading and understanding correctly, it looks like the LNC-2014 has the ability to take a signal from the WinMax and change the timing "on demand" and would only do this while spraying so that your timing isn't changed during normal driving. Do the hand held tuners have the ability to do this? |

I've been able to answer my own question (hand held tuners cannot change timing "on demand") but it leads me to another question. If I have the car tuned and pull timing, or get a handheld tuner and do it myself, what are the drawbacks of having the timing retarded during normal driving?
