Here is pretty much the entire early afternoon session from yesterday at Barber Motorsports Park. Two well driven 991GT3's caught me on my outlap, so I decided to have a go. My best lap of the weekend is on lap 4. I was bummed I didn't get in the 39's, so apologies for the language at the end of the video, that was my reaction when I looked at my lap time on my AIM solo. My car is on square 10.5 et22 Apex wheels with my old first set of Hankook RS4's, 305/30 19. This session was their 10th or 11th day track day, and are at the end of their life. Also, this is on the OE pads, not DTC 60's. I had swapped in the OE pads for the winter, and since I opted to not bring slicks this past weekend, I figured I'd give them a go. I wasn't disappointed, such a terrific pad from the factory.

Provoste, thanks for posting this vid.
You're right: those GT3s are very well driven indeed! Even more of a testament to just how capable our cars are right out of the box - even on old tires, that i suspect are even inferior when new vs what those Pcars wore...just a hunch? Oh btw: I am saving this vid as an answer to anyone who ever complains that 1le "understeers", or that stock pads are not "track worthy", or, or, or )This short (and completely opportunistic lol!) rant aside, your driving is superb as always and hopefully will inspire many to focus on developing their driving skills as the most important element to achieving fast pace. Wishing you all the best on and off the track in 2019! PS Sticking to stock G3s for another season as they are silly inexpensive here vs anything else in the class - yet so very capabale and easy to push the limits on. PSS If i had easy access to Pirelli scrubs here, id be all over them as a second set. But sadly, i dont... |

Thanks and and agreed on driver development. Side note, main reason for the Barber trip was to shake down my buddy and my S2000 enduro build for a race next month @ Barber with WRL. Randy Pobst was there instructing a young 16 year old girl (very talented) in a Porsche race car on Hoosiers. My friend in the S2000 on RS4 street tires passed them, and she ultimately settled into a pace following the S2000. Randy came and found us after the event to say how helpful it was to his student to follow such a well driven car, I told her... "do exactly what he is doing". Pretty cool, he'd a very nice and humble guy in person. |

At the pro level anyway. Well, enjoy and best of luck with the upcoming race! I am limited to iRacing until spring arrives, trying to keep my old dog reflexes from eroding any further lol! Cheers and pls post some vids of your S2000. |

Very fun video to watch, thanks for sharing! Controlling those slides and keeping the throttle pinned at the exits, feel for having the balance level at all stages... makes the car look 300 pounds lighter. Sure you kept all seats in there? Just kidding awesome car control. That 19 305 setup looks also very agile. If I may ask a personal question in terms of driver mod: how many years of tracking and roughly trackdays per season do you have under the belt? I’m well aware that’s not a linear curve applying to anybody, just curious. Cheers ![]() And good luck for the race as well |

I my first track day was in 2006. I have over 200 total days on track now, and I average 25-30 days on track per year. I did the Porsche instructor training program back in 2014 and I had about 100 days on track then. As we all know, track driving is expensive, so instructing has enabled me to do more events than I would have otherwise.... and I also love helping others learn the ropes and get faster on track. You're absolutely right about the learning curve not being linear either. My best friend with whom I share the S2000 race car has less than half as much time on track as me, but is just as fast. For me it took seat time and lots of coaching from other really fast drivers. If you ask me, the "secret sauce" is unwaivering confidience in one's driving ability is that last 10% that most advanced drivers never get to. Building that foundation of confidence enables you to push the envelope, because you believe that no matter how the car responds... "I've got this". |

I'm more referring to understanding the likely outcomes of pushing the envelope w/ carrying speed/ throttle, etc, and how you deal with those possiblilites should they occur. For example, If I carry more throttle through this corner... there is a good likelihood the car will either understeer or oversteer, I have the confidence in my ability to manage either situation should it arise. |

being able to catch the car no matter which effect might occur and believing in that ability. Exactly what I'm lacking due to too little experience atm. I feel most comfortable slightly below or at the limit of tire grip. Making progress on being mentally ready for countersteering before an oversteer kicks in, but it's a long way to be "ready for whatever may happen". I like your strategy of going the instructor path, good move from all aspects. So far I've gone with sponsoring on the car and promoting it as a first step to reduce some costs. Giving back knowledge once it's there is a win win. Thanks for sharing, and impressive track resume! Last edited by Rutkowski; 02-14-2019 at 12:50 PM. |

Without an ability to ANTICIPATE what the car may do, based on a developed skill of FEELING where the car is limit wise and then an ability to make proper CORRECTIONS before limits are overly exceeded - it is just a Russian roulette. That's why seat time and quality coaching are invaluable to progress from unconscious incompetence (novice) to conscious incompetence blended with concious competence (intermediate) and finally reach unconscious competence regarding execution of skills et al (advanced). NB These learning levels apply to any sport and are absolutely related to amount of practice. Just ask any pro

The difference here is monumental re consistent fast laps and safety. That's what Provoste's vid demonstrates so well. |
