Snow tires?

I'm moving north later this year to the New England area and I'll be taking my 2018 RS Redline edition Camaro with me. I understand people who live there use snow tires or chains in the winter. I can't picture my car with tires chains and I doubt I can get studded tires for it. Does anyone have any experience driving their Camaro in wintry-weather (the roads would have to be plowed, of course?)

I’ve driven a gen6 Camaro through three Wisconsin winters with no issues. Do like the Chevy engineers do with the test cars and get a set of Sottozero snow tires.

Buy a set of OE rims on eBay to keep cost down and eliminate the hassle of mounting and dismounting tires each season. Also keeps the car looking the same all the time.

I daily drove a 2004 GTO, 2016 SS and now 2018 SS. That’s 15 years doing this and I was never stuck.

Blizzak LM-32 here. Depending on size, may be cheaper than sottozero.

19x10's Obviously, you can get narrower wheels to match your car.

Daily driving a ZLE. There is nothing like being I a car every day, in every circumstance to full contect with and understand a car.

I daily drove a second gen Trans Am with the big fender mounted spoilers back in the day. I never broke one. Your canards remind me of that. Oh ...and that WS6 suspension was a rough ride too.

Blizzaks on the 8" rims are great in the snow. I got a set of 18x8 rims for my SS, put on Blizzaks, and am good to go in almost any weather. If you get a foot or more of snow, you may have some issues just because the car is so low already.

You'll also want to go to an empty parking lot and play in the first snow of the season with your snow tires on. Get a feel for how the car reacts. It is fairly predictable, and knowing what is going to happen and what the limits of the car are, you will be fine once you hit the roads.

I have a set of Michilin X-Ice 3s on my 2LS, as long as I'm careful on the throttle on ice or heavy snow they work well. I live in southern Canada so I drive in snow regularly. I'd recommend X-Ice tires over Blizzaks for anyone who is going to use the winter tires a lot because they wear better, but if you only need them for a time the Blizzaks apparently grip slightly better.

Also, if you stuck in poor conditions the snow/ice mode can help. You might need to turn off traction control if you get really stuck.

The "New England Area" is a big place. What you need depends on where you're going. Northern New Hampshire is a long way from southern CT, weather wise. Yes you will need snow tires in winter. No you won't need chains unless you're in the mountains, where you'll be better off garaging the RS and buying a beater 4x4.

Smaller house = smaller heat bill = more $ for cars!

I ran the X-Ice 3's on my wife's Subaru, and they are a great option too. I like the Blizzaks better for their superior deep snow traction, but the X-Ice 3's feel better on the roads when there is no snow, and do wear a little better too. Can't really loose with either.

I bought some Blizzak WS80's for my 2018 RS 1LT. The dealer threw in 18x7.5" 5th gen wheels with 245/50/18 all season tires for free which was awesome, but up here in Michigan i wanted a dedicated snow tire. Ironically its been a mild winter up here in the Detroit area, so I said screw it, and am running my all seasons for the next month or so until I throw my 20's back on. I'll use the Blizzaks next season I'm sure. I think certain all season tires with a little weight in the trunk and some good common sense, will get you through more moderate winter type driving than you might think. But with a good pure snow tire you'll have no problems even in blizzard like conditions. Been there and done that with various Mustang's and Camaro's over the years

Getting me through rough German winter are Continental WinterContact™ TS 860 S.
Original size tires on the original SS wheels.
I run them from November to end of March. Never had a problem.

Yea I think you'll find plenty of 6th gen owners run winter tires with good success. I think it's a must in colder regions.

I got a set of x-ice 3's mounted on stock oe 18" LT rims I got off eBay as 'take-offs'. It's the second season on them now. So far so good!

I got Michilin X-Ice 3s 18” rims no problems last year , this year only snowed once no problems Tuesday it’s supposed to snow 8” . I use snow ice mode anytime it snows no problems yet. As for chains and studs you have to check what state your going to . In pa chains are illegal stuns are legal.
