Anybody here tried anything like DipYourCar.com to plasti-dip your own car? If so, how was your experience? I'm considering going this route.

OMG, please don't. I've heard horror stories about it ruining clear coat. It also looks completely rice. Please get a wrap if you are trying to change the color or texture.

The stories of it hurting clearcoat were done on cars that were not well taken care of or were many years old. It doesnt hurt new cars or well kept(read:waxed) vehicles. I am friends with someone who started a dip business here in NJ with the help of Fonzie(DipYourCar) and he does an amazing job.
Ive had multiple cars dipped in different areas(never a full car). I dont currently drive a Camaro(but I plan to), however, on my current car I have my mirrors, emblems, and stone guards all dipped(by myself in my garage). Originally they were all black dip, but I got bored and changed them to a metallic Blue dip(white car). I get compliments everywhere by people asking if the car came like it. Youre going to get people who talk negative about it, or have "horror stories", but the great part about it is that you can take it off if you dont like it. Its SOOOO much easier to remove than a wrap, and costs half as much to try. Big thing is, practice makes perfect and the air has to be DRY! Make sure you constantly clean the nozzle and be prepared to make about 5-7 even layers so its smooth but also thick enough to easily remove.

Plastidip is great stuff if used in the right situation. I use it for a lot of parts that are low on the car, rocker panels, front spoilers etc. It does not hurt clearcoat at all. I have used it to protect wheels from winter debris.

I Plasti Dipped some stock wheel LT wheels to put on my 1LE for the winter. I had never used Plasti Dip before and have almost no painting experience. I messed up on one little area and made it worse by trying to fix it, but overall they look pretty good. The guys that did my Xpel thought they were powdercoated, so I feel pretty good. I still need to post some pics.

Used it for my track car because who the hell cares what it looks like, it's not meant to look good. Honestly had a awful experience, the stuff in certain nooks and crannies will lift up after a while and cause an air bubble which will eventually pop. Only went this route because it's cheap and I don't care, but honestly it looks worse than if it was just primer.
Would not recommend based on the experience I had. |

Here are the progress shots. The first picture with the car shows the Plasti-dip wheels. The photo in front of the house shows the powder coated wheels.

A friend has completely dipped his 6 gen 3 times. Looks good but if you are around any sort of regular road debris (e.g. gravel), it will get blemishes.

Did mine last March. Came out fine. And peeled off just fine. No damage to car at all. But it’s not for everybody

Buy the plastidip in bulk and use a compressor sprayer, not the rattle cans. I've seen dipped cars looked really cool, and I've seen them look really bad. Use many light coats. More light layers are easier to remove than thick layers. I regularly dip bowties, trim pieces that need refurbishment, RV door handles, etc. It is very durable! It's a fun thing to do, and it is removable, so have a good time and be creative!
