Door rub marks
Anyone else have an issue of the plastic body panel wearing the paint off the door? Pictures do the talking better than I can

There's a spot where the doors close and where the trunk closes on mine that shows paint rubbing away. It's not Japanese, German, or Italian so I expected imperfections from a $45k performance car, it's pretty lame to have to use excuses like this for faults that are easily removed with proper engineering. It also sucks being a perfectionist and also coming from a family of master craftsmen to see shoddy workmanship but it's a domestic car, not a European house, it's not build to last.

I mean don't get me wrong, I think gm has come a long way. Compared to the 5th gens these things feel miles ahead on fit and finish. I just hope its still a decent daily driver by the time I pay it off.

No problems with mine. Even the convertible top parts fit perfectly.

Mine has the same rub marks. Both sides. Luckily it's not into the paint like yours

don't see it on mine but I would think you could take a body hammer and tap it down a little to eliminate. i would do it on the door side then use some touch up paint.

Pretty obvious that the door needs re-hanging/adjusting at the hinge.

Problem is the rubbed part is the seam weld of the door. Any change in shape on one side will affect the other. Body side is plastic so that's a no-go as well. I'd say hinge alignment but the body lines are pretty well matched from the door to the body. I guess I'll get a touch up wand to prevent rust and slap some xpel on both sides as a sacrificial barrier.

My car requires a lot of care with the trunk to make sure it doesn't bash into the quarter panel. The doors are ok. Your photos look pretty bad, that issue might be correctable.

I thought this thread was going to be about marks on the door's plastic interior. No matter how careful I am, I seem to scuff up the panels.

All that said, I have the same issue with paint wearing in that area. I haven't spent any time yet trying to sort it out, so I'm curious to see if someone else figures out a way to correct it. Nigel |
