MY First Service at Chevy Dealership

Took the new to me HPB 1le in to get the dealership to install the tires I bought with 300 miles on them from a forum member. Had them check the brake pads and undercarriage including the suspension parts. Everything checked out perfect. While I was there, we did it's fourth engine oil service in under 10K miles. I had them do a 4 wheel alignment as well.

I stressed to the very knowledgeable technician that I wanted the standard alignment as opposed to the track mode alignment. He told me the 1le came from the factory with the track alignment! Just wondered if anyone knew if that was true.

I've heard that, if daily driven modestly, tire wear would be significantly improved with the street tune. The front wheels needed an equal adjustment on both to return it to the street tune. I don't know enough about it to say one way or another.

After the new tires and alignment, the car drove like a very different automobile. This 1le is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned, and that's saying something!

One other thing: I had them confirm that they would flash ECU or whatever computer involved after I install the GM Performance CAI I bought without charge (there's a note in the box that tells them to do it). Dwain Taylor in Murray, KY is an awesome dealership and their service department has never let me down...perfect record with me!

Track alignment from the factory...Ha! Put it on the machine and find out the real truth. Factory alignment is usually -1.1° camber front and -.5° rear and the toe can be anywhere.

Agreed. That tech was dead wrong on the alignment. I've never heard that they come out of the factory with the track alignment. I know mine didn't.

Either he just assumed, or worse, it's BS blown up his ass by GM's product training for Technicians.

I don't know enough about it to say what it is, was or should be. For now the car drives wonderfully well and a whole lot better than it did before the tires and alignment. And, I'm not sure what to attribute the improvement, tires, or alignment. I guess it doesn't matter, does it?

Can you post a picture of the alignment specs before and after? The dealer should have given you a sheet with it.

They come from the factory with no alignment. Toe is consistently off.

My 18 came with the Track Alignment, I had it on the rack the same day as purchase.

My 18 did not come with the track alignment. I took it to Barber Motorsports Park with the factory alignment and it performed great except for one turn where I got a lot of push. The next time I hit Barber I had my track alignment and it made such a huge difference on the track. My times were consistently nearly a second faster per lap. I'm not sure if that was credit all to the extra grip or partly because of the extra confidence it gave me to push it harder.

With what specs if i may ask?

Mine came with a street alignment, as most of them.
It wasnt perfect, but wasnt too badly messed up.
I did the break in per the manual then track alignment change of fluids etc before my first track day.

Mine was more aggressive than the track alignment - however - the selling dealership is the one who changed it before I bought it. You could clearly see that the factory paint on the bolts (that they add to show it was tightened) no longer lined up so it was changed after it left the factory.

Mine was -2.1 up front and -1.9 in the back. Front was toe'd out. Rear was zero toe.

Now it always runs -2.6 front and -1.9 rear, but with less toe.. car is less responsive at turn in now but of course tire wear will be much better without that toe out.
