If you are buying it as a garage-queen to bring to shows and keep all shiny-perfect, then ship it.
If you are buying it to drive, then drive it. Especially if you plan on tracking it.

Mine is not a 1LE, but I flew 1-way from DC to Atlanta, then drove it back 600 miles home. Aside from spending the next morning going over the front with some bug-remover, I came through unscathed.

Road trips are fun. Do it!

Thanks for the feedback and input. Interesting split of advice. As of right now I haven't decided what I am going to do. At the moment my schedule is booked so I will give the dealer a few more days to find a transport.

My biggest concerns were if the tires would make the haul, which sounds like they will, and some of the conditions along the way (thanks for the feedback on I-10, seeing how that was going to be my primary route.) I did buy this car to track it a lot like my Z/28, but with cheaper consumables (CCR replacements and costly pads get old). Not too worried about depreciation though just the physical aspect of the drive. I am leaning more towards driving it though, and it will be a good feeler for how it will be doing OLOA in this year as well.

Keep the thoughts coming though, i definitely like hearing others thoughts on it.

I thought about the trailer option, but if I am going to have to do the drive, I would rather do it in the car vs the Penske truck. I've done that once a previous move, and I now prefer to tow with my own Jeep.

Where in Surprise are you? I am in Waddell, right below you, if you see a white and black Z/28 running around that is me.

Dont use those tires on your drive, you're wasting them (save for track) and they're dangerous in winter temps and any rain. Remount with some PS4S and ship the 3Rs home.

Do the 5th Gen z/28 wheels mount up without issues? I have PS4S mounted on them already.

Yes. The only difference is the 5th gen wheels are 11.5 rear vs. the 12 of the ZL1 1LE. Fronts are identical specs.

I'll go pick it up from Atlanta and get it as far as Houston for you!

I would recommend getting XPel or some other clear bra put on before you start the drive. You could also buy track wrap if you want to do it yourself. The Blue painters tape works as well although trac wrap will look better.

I would say drive it but there could be road rash when you get home. You could get a temporary wrap on the first part of the grill and hood. Whatever you do stay way back from people so the road debris has time to fall back to earth. It should be ok to drive. The most I have driven after a purchase was my 2012 M3 in Dallas and drove it back to Houston 300 miles. No problems.

A specialty enclosed transport is about $2300, and regular transport is about $1100, and there is always the chance of damage. The dealer is trying to find a carrier that can support it but maybe I want to drive it now rather than waiting weeks for shipment.

Would you drive it the 2,000 miles? I am also entering the car in One Lap of America this year (my third time) so the long drive doesn't scare me, but not sure about doing it on the factory rubber. Thoughts?

BTW it only has 800 miles on it and I am coming from a Z/28.

DONE - enjoy the ride as much as you can in ZLE.
This guy gets it. It's a car, not a piece of art. The only enjoyment you can get out of it is by driving it. If you're worried about racking up miles on it then you probably shouldn't buy it in the first place.

I agree that I-40 would be risky at this time of year. Much of the trip would be at elevation, Albuquerque NM for example is 5000' and Flagstaff AZ was around 7000' if I recall correctly. I expect this car would be just terrible in the snow on those fat 3R tires. Basically the opposite of how great this car is going to be on a dry racetrack.

I would drive it back myself. But before doing that, I would find a reputable ppf shop and have the car protected at the dealer. Have road tires put on at the dealer and drive that badass home in about 4 weeks when temps go up. I luv road trips and the car would be broke in when ya get home. Congrats!!
