Autocross VS the 10 speed auto
I have a 2015 ZL1 auto, I have had some mods done headers, CAI and tune. Makes 525 to the wheels on dyno. I love autocrossing, I typically put mine in manual mode and in 2nd and run the course staying in second. I sometime shift to third on large, fast courses. I am considering a '19 ZL1 with the ten speed. Anyone autocross with the 10 speed auto? How do you like it and explain your strategy in gear selection?

I have autocrossed mine for over a year. The A10 works great. I run it in manual mode across town, but I let it do its own thing in auto mode during competition. It shifts up and down much faster than I can with more smoothness than in manual mode. It will also shift up versus bouncing off the rev limiter for those quick runs to 3rd and down to first as needed for slow corners. I find manual mode can upset the car slightly since the rev matching is less smooth in that mode versus auto mode. I find the A10 keeps the ZL1 in the meat of the power band so no real lag.

The A10 can shift that fast? If I leave my 5 gen in auto I get embarrassed. That is great to hear!

A10 is in its own league for racing. I just got mne last year and only had a chance to do 1 Autox but our autoX is set up as a short mini track layout , not a traditional parking lot. Last 2 events were cancelled due to a weather being way to cold and even snowy in some parts of Ohio but it seems that Auto mode does very well in gear selection. I tried in both and maybe if you leave it in 2nd for s ashort course it might do the trick.
I have BMR springs, -3 alignment, also 325s NT01 and 315 up front and the biggest issue with this car is getting or finding good traction , especially on cooler mornings. Do not worry about transmission as this is not your usual Auto gearbox, worry about fidnidng a good suspension setting and finding that sweet traction |

Shifts kind of like a sports bike if left to its own devices. I have done over 20 events, over 100 runs and experimented quite a bit. Leaving it in 2nd works, but is slower. I have a friend with an S2000. He is always bouncing off the rev limiter, concerned about the time it takes to shift up and then down and then upsetting the car. I am no longer worrying about that. I also get up to fourth in some events.

I run everything full off (hold the middle button for 7 seconds or so) or I put the ZL1 in Track/Race. Other modes can bog (with too much intervention retarding throttle) as I leave a slow corner. Full off is a challenge, but seems faster. For me, I tend to overdrive with everything off. I get less consistency. Fastest run, but more throwaway runs. Track / Race is a good compromise. I leave suspension in Track unless it is a bumpy surface where Tour or Sport seems to hold better.

We have autocrossed our '18 A10 several times and it works great. Put it in track mode and leave it alone. We actually never use the manual mode. The car up and downshifts perfect every time. No way we could be any better. GM did an awesome job with the calibration on this transmission.

Definitely no paddle shift needed. Performance shifting is the way to go. Full auto.
this was my A10 Z and when running autoX With the M6 it goes to 60 mph in 1st so not a lot of shifting if any there either.

I appreciate everyone's response. I am blown away that this tranny can shift this well. I was not expecting to hear that. Lastly, I am running '19 Forgelines and RE71Rs 305's at all corners. I plan on transferring these over, anyone have any other suggestions on tire set up?

You may have a slight issue with 305's up front on the 6th Gen. There are some threads on this and getting them to clear the Mag Ride. |

Talk to Dave Schardt at Forgeline. He has all of the specs on my wheels. They fit perfectly! I even have 2.5 degrees of neg camber up front.
