I do think it is a good move on GM to offer the A10 though. Not everyone can drive a manual or want to. |

I'm a die hard stick guy but I can't complain about having my A10. Initially I wanted a manual but, being a drag racer, the auto just made more sense. I think the idea of putting the A10 in the 1LE was a good decision on GM's part. It's great to have choices. As far as exclusivity goes, I still think the 1LE will stand apart from your regular ZL1. For me though, the only thing that would keep me from getting the ZLE would be the tires it comes with. Not everyone is going to use this car for what its built, not everyone will track the car. Some may just like the look.

I think the adoption of the A10 into the ZL1 1LE is more for going after marketing times (sales) and also to open up more possible sales, more than it is about going after the GT500. Quote:
Beyond that, Ford and GM tune their transmissions differently. Theirs probably minor differences between friction material and torque converters. Last edited by Mountain; 01-29-2019 at 08:00 PM. Reason: corrected narrative from interview |

No doubt this is to compete with the upcoming GT500 with a DCT, but I think it's a great option to have especially considering that it's faster than the manual version. Something else to consider it still will be lighter than the regular A10 ZL1. That along with the re-calibrated ELSD, PTM and additional Track Modes (drag racing?) should make for some interesting times. I still think they're going drop a 775 hp LT5 and DCT before the 6th gen ends it run.

Lets see how many buy the new A10, and if they can run for longer then 20 min lap sessions, I hope they can, but only time will tell, GM don't over fill the trans we don't want a repeat of that.

Can the regular ZL1 do it? If yes then we have the answer.

Still real surprised not only that Ford didn't put the A10 in the 500 going with the dct7, but there was no mention of a standard at all (at least coming out of the gates). I never thought I would have an auto in my first real sports car, being in my late 40's & glad I did adapt to change, but do hope the standard is not abandoned long term as the advancements continue. The 500 needs a 3rd petal as much as the ZLE needed the A10 imho. I mostly wanted to razz those who are resisting the auto movement all together and who not so long ago said there was a good reason the ZLE would never have an auto...I do think heating issues will be resolved & will become just as reliable. All in all nobody should be upset with the game...it's a REALLY good time to be a hot rod / sports car enthusiast. I still want Dodge to get back into the turning game to compete on the road course & we all know they can do it. Competition is ALWAYS an outstanding situation for future improvements. Having said all that, the standard Z / A10 is still the better option for me & it's turning out to be more challenging to get to the track (COTA specifically) than I expected. I still spend way too much time & $$$$ on guns / hunting & not ready to give up that portion of my fun pie allocation. Still, if I did live around the tracks like many of you, I would be very, very torn of which ZLE to purchase. Guess it's a good problem to struggle between. So, do I feel I could be bit faster using two pedals, or would art simply be more enjoyable rowing?? Good stuff amigos. |

What’s the weight difference between A10 vs 6M?

Should have just done this from the beginning...
Amen to this. I get the attachment to a manual and I really appreciate the passion of those that really won’t settle for anything but a manual. In regards to the ZLE A10 I think it will be a good bit quicker on most tracks than the ZLE 6 speed. I looked at some PDR video from my ZL1 A10 vs a ZLE and I was .75 seconds quicker (total) for just 2 sections (mostly straightaway- VIR Full). This with the ZLE running a 1.4 second better lap. Anyway not trying to upset anyone that has a manual ZL1 / ZLE but I’m so glad Chevrolet did this if nothing else to stay quicker than the GT500. |
