Do you already have everything in your signature installed? If so, what are you adding on phase 3 of your winter mod project?

Signature is up to date. I have not decided everything yet for phase 3 but I got a Alky Control Meth Kit and Flex Fuel kit sitting on the self ready to install.

Dropped off my motor at Bruce Performance in Jasper Saturday morning. I’m in the hurry up and wait mode now. It will probably be 2 – 3 weeks before I’m back in business as the machine shop is pretty backed up.
I’m having the motor balanced and heads assembled. Danny is also bolting on some torque plates and honing the cylinders and torqueing my APR main studs and line honing if necessary. He talked me into honing even though the cross-hatch pattern looks just as good in the area contacted by the rings ring as it does above or below. I would be comfortable just giving the jugs a good cleaning but figured I would go ahead and hone since it’s stripped to the bare block and will be thoroughly cleaned anyway.
After I dropped everything off, I got to wondering about the location of the knock sensors. I’m pretty sure I removed all sensors from the block – all I remember is the crank position sensor in the back and the cam sensor on the front cover. I’m guessing the sensors are in either the heads or on the valley cover?

Sitting on the couch, twiddling my thumbs. Last day of a three day weekend with absolutely nothing going on. Damn, I wish the machine shop had finished my motor, I would probably be firing her up about now...

I know that feeling, took almost 3 weeks to hone the cylinders, and balance the assembly. It was already torn down so it sucked waiting. Then I had another week for assembly. Plus waited for parts for a couple weeks it seemed. We did get the lash cap taken care of Friday. I know when you get it back your gonna go balls deep to get it done.

What fuel pump lobe are you running? Ted J told me I would not need a lash cap with his 32% cam

35% and I did need one and used the ls7 from GM. We had to add 2 extra gaskets to get the correct preload. We have about 10 thousand preload. We had none before and was causing issues with fluctuation on the high side pump and we also installed the Lt4 pump in the tank.

Correct, but don't try and compare to other brands of cams since each cam manufacturer may do it differently.

Ted.

I agree with that since I've talked to several who didn't require a lash cap. We learned a lot getting it figured out with a little help for sure. It would be great if they were all like Teds cams, a lot less headaches.

We didn’t need a lash cap on my setup.

the knock sensors are on the left and right sides of the cylinder block

the drivers side is protected by a little heat shield

see image below. the other side is directly opposite.

good luck with your build

My winter project is turning into a spring project, but I’m finally back in business! Got my motor back from the machine shop last week. She’s balanced and honed, heads and block are surfaced, new springs, retainers, and keepers are installed in the heads.
I spent all day Saturday making sure everything was surgically clean. Yesterday I stuffed her full of CompStar rods with Diamond pistons from GPI along with some ARP main studs.
