Had mine replaced at the dealer last month, it's covered.

I’ll vouch for these letters from eBay. They fit, and I’ve had them on my car for over a year. No peelingfading or bubbling.

An example is Diesel engines - an American built diesel car MUST use Eurea injection (refined cow piss). It doesn’t matter what kind of emissions it gets - it HAS to have it.

VW used to make the same engine for the TDI golf, Jetta, Jetta wagon and Passat in the same factory in Germany. With the exception of the Passat, the rest of the cars were made in Wolfsburg. The cars made there didn’t need to have the Eurea injection (a huge maintenance cost on a system that does nothing to improve anything ) but the Passat has to have it. The German cars were cleaner, got better mpg, and didn’t require cow piss every time you fill it up.

It’s such a screwed up system - in the end, cars now weigh the same, get the same mileage, with slightly better emissions with a huge up cost to the consumer.
You need to find better sources for your information.

CAFE has nothing to do with sound. CAFE is Corporate Average Fuel Economy. Noise regulations exist, but not as part of CAFE.

Urea is not made from urine. Its found in urine. But thats not the most economical source. Its made, more or less, from combining ammonia with carbon dioxide at high pressure.

Also about urea, manufacturers are not specifically required to use it in diesels. Its just the most effective way to meet emissions standards at the moment. But if a solid-state catalytic converter could be made at an affordable price that does just as good a job (or better), it would replace the DEF + SCR combination currently used.

And American diesel emission standards are what they are so that they're in line with cars, instead of being held to a lesser standard like in the past. The standards in Germany, while being higher on paper, were actually much easier to meet. Its like saying students in one school are better at math because they all get A's or A+'s on their test, while kids in a different school average around a C. But the first test is merely adding single digit numbers together while the other is multi-variable algebra.

And as for DEF 'doing nothing', I don't know about you but I'm not a fan of breathing in nitrogen dioxide. It does a whole range of things to your lungs, none of them are good.

Here is the solution I came up with to handle those flimsy peeling vinyl engine cover letters. Ordered painted covers from RPI and got a great job that was well worth the dough.

That blue is very striking. I went with the Orange to stay with the Fifty color scheme.
Did you install them wet or dry?

Mine are also starting to peel the paint off for no apparent reason. No harsh chemicals ever or anything like that.

Those that got covered under warranty, are the replacements holding up, or is the vinyl from e-bay the way to go for longevity?

Any issues with the vinyl adhesion?

Same thing happened to mine - after I convinced the dealership that they actually came painted from the factory, they ordered new ones and replaced them, no charge

Went to my local dealer (Medved) with my peeling letters and the guy said 'thats a cosmetic problem and is only covered on the 12mo/12k warranty'. So I called another dealer a little further away and said 'I will order you a new pair today under warranty, when do you want to come have them installed?'

There are cafe standards for noise emissions that, just like exhaust emissions, get more and more stringent as time progresses. You or I cannot really tell the difference in the noise with them on or off the car, but the car needs them in order to pass government standards (and the testing standards that are in place)
I took that crap off early on the ownership. They don't have any sound absorbing material.

The gray/black cover in the center that goes over the intake manifold has some insulation under it.
