I had a '87 Buick that would leave many newer cars in the dust, as long as there wasn't much of a turn. Makes the LT1 feel like a slug.

Ok let me clarify my personal point of view. By all means a stock ss or even stock 2016+ Accord V6, a 5.7 rt charger/challenger, coyote 5.0, 5th gen camaro, etc are fast cars and more than adequate for 90% of ppl with half a brain.

For me personally I work at a speed shop in Houston Tx (street racing capital), come from well to do parents (financially), and I have a decent income. Piece that altogether and the crowd I hang around my cars in stock form around here is a joke and yes considered slow lol. I'm not being the least bit sarcastic at all. Ugr won't even look at or acknowledge you if you aren't making 1100+ up in a street car. So if you are a true enthusiasts and live where the weather is beautiful year around and have miles and miles of open highways plus a huge crowd of ppl who go to Mexico very regularly you can see where 455 or 500 is "cute" but nowhere near enough.

Stock GNX is about 15 sec 1/4 mile.

LT1 feels slow because it's in the Alpha chassis. Drop it into, say, an old Datsun 240Z chassis and see how it feels.

Actually, the stock '87 GNX was a solid 13.5-ish sec 1/4 mile and the '86/'87 Intercooled GNs or Turbo Ts/T-Types were low 14.s.

I had 3 different GNs over the years and also owned GNX 281. My last GN was a solid mid-upper 11 second with just bolt ons. This was running at Norwalk's track.

Both cars (GNs or GNX's) were very capable performers 100% stock back in the day and were the quickest factory built car, embarrassing even the Corvette. But - the new LT1 Camaro (100% Stock) is much quicker even 100% stock.

Ok, cool. My memory isn't what it used to be. Turbo cars are easy to mod for power, that's for sure...

However, point stands that new Camaro is way faster, just doesn't feel that way because of it's chassis.

The Gnx was great for the day, cost well over $60,000 in today’s dollars and has performance that a could keep up with a modern Camry or accord.
(Stock, not chipped)
Other affordable performance cars like the Corvette, Mustang or Camaro were pathetic compared to what they were in the ‘60’s

Stock numbers were about mid 5 second to 60 and 13.7@ 105 mph.

Not according to Edmunds 5 year depreciation.

This is the reason I changed from the ZL1 to the 1SS 1LE.

That's the exact same depreciation % for either car.

It goes without saying a higher priced car will have more depreciation $$

I think there's a balance that a lot of folks aren't looking at or considering. Yes, the SS 1LE has plenty of power in its stock form for most people. I would have loved to have picked up an A10 ZL1 but, there just weren't any available within a 500 mile radius of me when I was looking for another car. There just so happen to be a 1LE, however. Now, being nearly full bolt on, I'm having a lot of trouble keeping the tires from spinning regardless of the traction settings on stock tires. Now, the car feels as though its in its happy place. Just on the edge of being dangerous while being a riot to drive around on the road. I think for those of you who are happy with the car but wish you had more power, should just go FBO, keep it N/A and have fun. I think you'll be surprised at how well it works with the 1LE package as a whole.

In hind sight, I feel as though the A10 ZL1 would get numb pretty quick but, would make for a great cruiser.

Having both in my Garage, I enjoy driving my 1SS 1LE a lot more. It's more usable power and handles a lot better on curvy mountain roads.
The Wife traded in her C7 GS for the last ZL1 the dealership had. While the ZL1 is amazing, its too much for her for a daily. She now wants the GT350 so I'll be able to compare those too soon enough!
