Pros and Cons

I am on the Fence on either the ProCharger Kit or the Whipple LT1 Supercharger Kit. Can someone give me the pros and cons of each system please.

So you aren't even considering the Magnuson?

Thanks.

I have already installed the Cat Back SW exhaust, AFM Delete and the Secondary Cats delete. I have a set of headers with high flow cats that I still need to install. I was thinking of doing a Cam and a tune then the Upgrade down the road.

With the Magnuson, is says that the kit is used with a stock motor with no mods. I was thinking a Cam. If I go this route, should I leave the ditch the Cam install??

Maggie works great with a cam. I suspect it just means that the tune is included with the stock cam...once you add a cam you will need a more customized tune. Further, once you add the cam, you will really need some other supporting modifications.

Cam + fuel system upgrade + lt headers.

Do you already have a tuner you plan to work with? If you don't have someone in mind, I recommend Ted Jannetty since he did amazing work on my sled. Because you are heading toward a custom tune, it might be a good idea to get in touch with a tuner and walk through your plans.

The issue is, on the stock LT1 fuel system, you are gonna be limited to about 600whp. You will get into that range wirh no cam...so your cheapest path is to simply add the maggie with the stock tune, but believe me, I dont want to talk you out of the cam since they are awesome.

What type of driving, are your ever going to race the car? AutoX, road race and or Drag? What type of street tires are you going to run.

Assuming you are Joe Average and going to run the stock rim size and normal 200+ wear tires, all superchargers will easily exceed the traction limit of the tire period.

How much money do you want to spend, all superchargers will easily go over the limit of the LT1 fuel system. LT4 pump and LT4 injectors are about $1600 and even then I think the systems on the market can exceed these flow rates.

I went with a D1X Procharger good to 1000 engine HP, stage II intercooler:
1) about 10 lbs or so lighter than a PD
2) super simple to install
3) it gave me enough head room from stock motor to forged engine with cam and ported heads. So 600 to 1000 engine.
4) I knew that the $3500 injector cost would limit my budget for a while (needed to get above 800 to 900 or so engine HP) so I did NOT consider the F1.

I was close to doing a LT4 upgrade, like the look and the OEM engineering, but the Procharger since I knew I could do it myself, basically swung the deal. I pretty sure I could tackle a maggie / Edelbrock install now. But for my first time, I was a little leery. Also you have to think the LT4s are left over from the guys going PD aftermarket for the most part.

If you are doing drag racing there are others here with advice, but you need to say what timeslip you are shooting for.

I just finished my new build with cam, long tubes but haven't gotten it back on the dyno yet. There are a bunch on the forum with cam and perform awesome. Mine went 10.03 on stock motor. You'll love the new found power, great street manners and take it to the track and have some fun. Run it on 93 or E85.

Depending on your power goals you may want to consider the LT4 SC as well. It’s a smaller blower than the maggie or whipple but probably a better value for the power they produce. If you look at ADMs builds with the LT4 system it has proven to be quite a capable set up.
