What Speakers for my Bose Replacement?
So I have purchased my PAC audio unit and I have an Alpine 5 channel PDX amp laying around with a set of 6.5" Polk MM series speakers. I was going to purchase 6.5" matching components for the front, but have been thinking of seeing what you guys recommend for a set of components since the back is basically fill sound. What's your preferences? I had a set of polk DB components in my bonneville back in high school and they sounded great.
Also I have been thinking of buying a DSP that supports TOSlink. I don't see many on the market. What DSP do you guys recommend and why? I am putting in my kicker 12L7 also for bass response, because I have it just sitting around. I'm swapping to a sealed box for better sound quality. Lastly, what are the stock sizes of the speakers in the vehicle? I see the front doors are 6x9, but I couldn't find much about the rear side panels, and rear deck. Thanks in advance! |

You will get a plethora of answers regarding which speakers to go with. many of those responses will be subjective. My reply is objective. One speaker company has been dominating the sound audio quality competitions for the last 12 years: Hybrid Audio technologies, or HAT as we call them. The owner is an electrical engineer that used to dominate IASCA competitions using other equipment, but then decided that he could build better speakers than the competition for a better price. HE SUCCEEDED!
After starting with the Legatia competition line, he expanded to include everything from OEM replacement, to competition grade audiophile speakers (Legatia SE). I have Legatia SE speakers in all of my vehicles. It is the only speaker I will put in my cars. I am not sure what you would consider high quality drivers, but if you think of ranbow, scanspeak, dynaudio, focal utopia... the Legatia SE line surpasses them all. Again, don't just take my word for it, look at the results of the IASCA competitions over the last decade. for product info: http://hybrid-audio.com/ to purchase: http://store.12velectronics.com/cate...-Technologies/ I recommend finding a local authorized dealer to purchase your items through. **Note** I am not an employee of HAT, I am not sponsored by HAT, and I receive zero compensation from them in any way. But Scott Buwalda created the most complete set of drivers of any company, and deserves credit for what he has built.

Also, regarding OEM replacement speakers. If yu have the BOSE system, the front center channel and corner dash speakers are a little smaller than the typical 3.5", so these would be a perfect direct fit replacement

Those two way's look like they aren't as high priced as the rest of their stuff. They sound nice but the money is just crazy expensive on a lot of their speakers... |

Those prices seem outrageous for non-audiophiles, but are par for the course for high end speakers. Regarding the BOSE speakers in the dash, I would consider those more fullrange/midrange, and not just tweeters. The signal from the BOSE amp going to the dash speakers is likely around 400hz ~20k hz, which is just above the bass and midbass frequency range. You can definitely run a component setup between the doors and the dash, and you can either do this using an active crossover or a passive crossover which typically comes with a component set.
