Electric will be king of the road here in the next decade or so.
They may not have the sound of traditional engines , but the power/torque can be insane. You don't win races sounding good. I personally would rather be fast then loud. I got a chance to ride in the Zombie 222 all electric mustang and it was nuts. |

A electric car will never make it unless it charges itself while driving it. How are you suppose to charge it if you don’t have a garage and mostly everybody doesn’t have one. Have a 25 cord going into your house? How about in the winter when the snow ban is on , you’ll need a extension cord 3 blocks long and how are you supposed to lay it on the streets when the plow comes along and rips it off your car and socket in your house? The only way a electric car will work is if charges itself.

Electricity in its present form of production is the most inefficient and costly options available. You'll also need least a 200A service at your house in order to add a circuit for a fast charger (3-4 hours), a lot of homes only have a 100A installed, your looking at 4-5K to upgrade. The electrical infrastructure in your neighborhood will likely have to be upgraded as well with the added demand. This is the future but it's going to be a long haul, don't sell off your internal combustion engines yet.

Tesla has a network of fast chargers that enable much faster recharge times. 30 minutes gets you 80% I think. Porsche has announced a similar system. Granted that still requires a bit of logistics for a long trip, but I know people that easily manage it. According to this article, you can get 120 miles range in 8 minutes. https://newatlas.com/abb-350kw-fast-charger/54377/ The end game is way beyond needing a plug in your house where you charge overnight. That will ultimately be a convenience more than a necessity. A friend with a Tesla Model 3 is having solar cells put on the roof to allow charging from the sun. The goal is to allow recharging not much different than stopping at a gas station. Your model is based on old technology. Faster is coming. When there is money to be made, more of these stations will be available. As for an electric Camaro? Wouldn't surprise me if GM did pull the ultimate game changer. As it is today, the Camaro is slowly dying a slow death with continuously lower volumes. Will a fundamental switch make a difference and could GM even remotely consider calling it a Camaro?

Electric ain't doing jack shit no time in he near future. I'll put good money on it. Oil still runs the world and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Gas in my neck of the woods is 1.94 right now. Electric will get a foothold when oil allows it. It ain't happening no time soon. Elon and whoever else can try all they want, and if they aren't careful they will end up broke, in prison or dead.

And somehow I have no idea how you end up in prison or dead. Broke maybe, but if you are selling in Europe (also passing crazy emissions laws) and China which combined are 3x the US market you will need EVs. It won't take over the world tomorrow, but it's coming. Autonomous EVs will demand the reliability and maintenance advantages an EV has. Whether it's powered off the grid or by hydrogen, it's just going to happen. Too many people that don't come on to automotive websites to discuss cars don't give a crap about what powers their cars or trucks. Seems to be a lot of anger over this subject. Have no idea why.

I was referencing the nasty little games our .gov and oil companies like to play when it comes to competition they don't necessarily care for. Remember the Honda EV back in the 90's and how that went down. A lot has to change before we get to the EV being widely used. Upgrading our electrical grid is first. No way in hell our old ragged ass electrical grid can handle that extra demand. I ain't mad, just don't want an electric motor powering my shit. |

Electric cars will eventually be the future, no doubt in my mind about that...but it definitely isn't happening within the next decade, we're still a good 3 decades away at minimum before we see this becoming mainstream.
The infrastructure to support full use of EV's just simply put is non-existent. |

This is a good article....A lot of good points and a good reality check. EV is probably always way, way in the future...
