Sound Deadening Question
Does anyone know if I am able to put sound deadening material on the heat shield that is above where the suitcase muffler was? I installed an axle back exhaust and above the mufflers is a very cheap thin heat shield which I want to reinforce with sound deadening material. My goal is to eliminate the rattle that comes from the plastic in the back near the speakers. I cannot stand the sound of it. I can live with drone, but I cannot stand the rattling noise in the back. I know people line their trunk with material, but I figured this would be even better to be even closer to the source outside the car.

I highly recommend the entire trunk area and a few other key spots, it makes a huge difference, especially on my verts.

Take a look at Second Skin Audio. They make a wide range of sound deadening products that are very well regarded in the Mobile Audio world.

I'm going to put deamplifier pro under the car over the heat shield. I ordered the luxury liner pro for the trunk and it didn't do anything besides make the exhaust sound slightly quieter. I think the deamplifier pro will help with the rattles. It's only minor rattles that occur only sometimes so you would think a little bit of sound deadening would do the trick.

My understanding is that if there are any weak links, spots missed, they tend to nullify all the other works done, my brother got his mustang done a few years ago by a shop, and said it wasn’t worth it unless the job was done perfectly, something he wasn’t sure could be done after the fact... in other words all or nothing built that way from the factory.
