Only if you check the right box on the configurator ... hint: it's on the interior page.
Actually twice in the Corvette C5 generation - per your info: 2001 Corvette LS6 385 bhp / 385 lb-ft 2002 Corvette LS6 405 bhp / 400 lb-ft ... and prior to the LS6: 1997 Corvette LS1 345 hp / 350 lb-ft 2001 Corvette LS1 350 hp / 375 lb-ft* That one year update on the Z06 was brutal, I fortunately had an '03 * Wiki shows 365, but my original dealer PDF and other sources show 375 |

Off the top of my head I can think of at least a dozen times GM did a mid-generation HP increase on the Corvette alone. I'm not even going to mention the cornucopia of motors available in the Corvette between 1953 and 1974. We'll just focus on the 'Vettes that got strangled by the '74 emissions requirements.
1975 was the low point in Corvette performance. The L48 motor put out a meager 165HP and the L82 was rated at 205HP. The 1976 HP numbers stayed the same. From '77 to '80 the HP increased every year until the L42 was laying down 190HP and the L82 was at 230HP. Heck, from 1980 to 1982, the motor changed each year. 1980 had the L48 & L82, 1981 had the L81 (190HP) and the 1982 'Vette sported the L83 (200HP). For the C4's (1984 - 1996), Corvette started with the same L83 the '82 'Vette sported. The L83 wasn't long for this world though, and it was quickly replaced by the L98 in 1985. The '85 L98 was rated at 230HP and 330lb/ft. By 1991 the L98 was up to 250HP in the coupe and 245HP in the convertible. 1990 saw the introduction of the LT5 powering the "King of the Hill" ZR-1 with 375HP. The ZR-1 saw a HP bump in 1992 to 405HP, where it stayed until the end of it's production in 1995. In 1992 the L89 gave way to the LT1, which was rated at 300HP, and it stayed that way until the end of C4 production in 1996. '96 also saw the single year run of the LT4, a hotrodded version of the LT1. It was rated at 330HP, but the consensus was that the LT4's actual output was closer to 350HP. The C5's (1997 - 2004) HP numbers stayed pretty stable during its production run. The aluminum block LS1 was introduced in 1997 with 345HP. By 2004, it was up to 350HP. The 2001 Z06's LS6 was at 385HP, and as mentioned above, the 2002 LS6 jumped to 405HP. The C6's (2005 - 2013) started production in 2005 with the LS2 at 400HP. In 2008 the LS3 was introduced and HP jumped up to 430 (436 with NPP)... Anyway, you get the point. GM has a long history of bumping Corvette's HP numbers mid-generation, not to mention introducing completely new motors. I'm not as versed in Camaro's history, but as Corvette's little brother, I'd be willing to bet Camaro's HP increases mirror Corvette's pretty closely. |

The F-twins got a nice engine upgrade with their mid-generation refresh in 1998. They went from the LT-1 (and a few LT-4s) to the LS-1.

Yup, I remember this. Went from Z28 to SS right? I may be confused, but I know they bumped the power. May have been 2000?

Yeah, heck, when you start factoring in full on engine changes (vs. my LS1/LS6 examples), there's even more cases of GM mid-cycle HP updates! I always really liked the GTO, thought it was a terrific, understated, affordable little muscle car (even if some GTO "purists" didn't like the design ...), with a really good interior (the Holden interiors were always really well done). There's a super clean one I see around here, nice wheel/suspension setup, definitely has exhaust work. |
