I had no problem getting a test drive when looking at my 1LE.

On the street its super over kill and I get frustrated because I CAN'T use all the power. So a ZL1 would just be worse in that regard. |

Also, I thought the HUD was a gimmick until I got used to it. Now I feel that having to look at the gauges behind the steering wheel is an annoying pain and takes my eyes off the road for too long. I'd be tempted to just not bother looking at them, but the "fuel" gauge moves around too much. Though, there is one thing that I hate about the HUD. When I have nav running, I get the turn countdown on the HUD, dash, and infotainment screen all at once. |

Made that mistake myself. Mulled over the decision for seemingly forever and finally decided on the BRZ as the sensible fun car, but just couldn't bring myself to love it. Rented a Camaro 1SS while on vacation not thinking anything of it, and that gut feeling had me at a dealership 3 weeks later trading in my embarrassingly short lived BRZ ownership in for a Camaro! |

It is a lot of car but The ZL1 is simply a joy with the mag ride & quite cozy suspension in tour & most certainly not overboard...I do think the ZLE would indeed be too much for DD for what I personally need with the pure race inspired suspension & limited track exposure due to logistics.

On my wish list:
1. ZL1 (non 1LE version) best super Camaro and still a DD practical car 2. SS 1LE. Great car and ready for track time. 3. SS best DD without track time needs

I went from a Z28 to my 2SS Redline Vert with an 8 speed auto and heavy duty brakes. I loved the Z car but am very happy with the change to an automatic transmission. I've got the GM cold air package and performance exhaust on the SS making the "seat of the pants" feel the same or better than the Z. Also, I really enjoy the creature comforts and the tuning features that come with the Mag Ride.

Are you saying the ZL1 is actually a better DD because you can put in touring mode vs the SS 1LE which is always in track ready mode?? Never thought of that. Great point
As far as test driving at the dealer I don’t like that entire process. The sales person was invading my personal space if you know what I mean. Literally, hovering over me as I sat in the drivers seat with my wife in the passenger seat. 5 mins while I’m adjusting seating position, asking her if she likes etc etc. Maybe it’s just me but by the time I walk into a dealership to “kick tires” I know as much about the car if not more then most sales people. I just want them to introduce themselves and then give me my space. I think my last ten cars have been researched obsessively online and then I pull the trigger. In fact, that to me is 80% of the enjoyment. Youtube, forums, cars and coffee. Love the process. |

Mine will never see a track even though I might kinda sorta be interested in that sort of thing but more to the point I demand that level of handling on the street. I wanted those wheels/tires/breaks/etc etc

if you can afford a ZL1 that is the car to get. 99% of them or the 1LE never see a track. Although the 1LE and ZL1 make fun track cars they are really built to be a great grand touring cars.

I should have bought a ZL1
