Currently stock 2SS sizing, what do I gain by going to wider wheels and tires?
pretty much straight forward question.
Assuming same tires on both... I'm talking street tires not drag radials or anything. Stock 2SS size 245/40/20 and 265/35/20 Thinking about going to 1LE size on 10 and 11" wheels is 285/30/20 and 305/30/20 What do I gain? any straight line performance? Any cornering performance? overall ride or handling on streets or highways? Trying to justify the $$ for new wheels... Last edited by subsonic0702; 11-08-2018 at 10:28 AM. |

Better dry performance all around.
Increased hydroplaning in the wet when they are baldish. More road noise. Tires get really expensive in these sizes. Pretty simple, no magic here. |

For the most part the car is city/highway driven with about 10 - 15 or so 1/4 mile passes a year.. and some spirited driving every now and then.. |

Anyone know what the speedometer error would be going to 1LE size from the stock 2SS?

Your stock rear tires are 275/35-20s (not 265).
Stock size I think is big enough if the tires are grippy and not all season. If you add boost though, 305s in the rear would be better obviously. |

And, yes, I have a pro-charger, should have mentioned it, but that's what's causing my decision. I've been leaning toward the wider set up, but was toying with 19" wheels to pick up a little more sidewall, but after everything I read, think I'll just go with some 017 wheels and a decent tire in SS1LE sizing... |

I'll try again. Anyone know what the speedometer error would be with this tire size change?

I just put on a set of zl1 wheels and tires on a 2ss vert, the wider tires really grab all the road imperfections and move the car around. On a smooth road it felt great. Waiting for the autox to start back up, hoping to loose a few seconds per run with these.

I bought new tires a couple of months ago and went with stock size in the front and 285/35 20s on the rear instead of 275/35 20. Speedometer off by 1 mph or less. I planned to keep my stock wheels for now so I bought tires that would work with them. Didn’t go with runflats either and am happy so far.

ZL1 1LE's are 19" rims.
Better grip and performance all the way around with the wider rims and tires until it rains or gets cold out, then traction is gone like a light switch. The amount of tire choices go way down and the prices go way up with the wider tires as well. |
