Looking at the diagram. I would say the unfiltered side is the inlet your finger is pointing at. The filtered side has the outlet port with the sight glass underneath it.

Clean, filtered side is the one with the little gold element inside.
Pop the filter off and look down inside

Can someone explain to me why you need a catch can on a low h.p. engine & how can any oil get in there without a vacuum pump.

You dont need one but many like to have them.

Your intake is pulling in air from the pcv crankcase and oil vapors are going straight into the intake and coating the back of valves that will never be washed off due to direct injection. You may want one for piece of mind or pass and someday down the road might possibly need to have the valves extensively cleaned. Could be at 40k miles or 140k miles. So its really up to you.

Yea i just bought a JLT one. It was like 130 bucks. After only 300 miles of normal driving no aggresive pulls ive got almost. 2 teaspoons in there. Had a jlt on my 5.0 as well and just drained after every oil change.

Yup. Religiously people are anti catch can seem to belittle those who actual use one or want one.

At 3k miles if i have about 5oz of oil then imagine at 70k miles lol
