What bolton's are available that do NOT require a tune
Clearly I understand the significance of a tune even with a stock car and believe you me I want one BUT this is my commuter. I talked to a buddy who runs a Chevy Service center and he confirmed any changes to the ECU, etc.. leaves a hash mark that is not removable and will void my warranty. I am not willing to do that. I did it with my C7 but that car sits so who cares. I ordered a Kand N intake and MRBP axleback. I read a ported TB would require a tune in a A8? Intake manifold is out. Do I just stay satisfied with I/E?

I ran a ported Tb/intake for a few months before getting a tune. Had zero issues, seat of the pants gain was there but not significant. The big change was with the parts and the tune working together. Sadly I live at a high altitude so I can't say whether your results would be similar or safe tune free.

Yes I WISH a tune was an option but I am going to have to pass. I have a ported TV on my C7 thst works well with the blower never considered on a stock LT1. Something to consider.

I don't mean to try and start anything this seems kind of a sensitive subject haha, but from my knowledge of the way the ECM works it will do a good job of adding the extra fuel needed with the extra airflow a ported intake should give. The way more power is made is usually from increasing airflow, the maf and map sensors (mostly the maf) is there to meter this extra airflow and inject a proportional amount more of fuel giving you more power. So technically any increased airflow you get the ECM should adjust accordingly. However, there are plenty of other reasons you actually need a tune. For example, past a certain increased airflow the ECM will go into a protection mode since it thinks there is a problem with the electronic throttle (bad), the ecm expects a certain amount of airflow and it will cut back power for safety reasons. There is also a lot of other reasons for drivability, shift quality, preventing check engine lights, if you get a cold air intake that moves the maf sensor, etc.
I just think people make too big of a deal with the tune thing, a ported intake and TB won't increase airflow enough to cause any problems, since the ecm is designed for a little extra room. |

The ECM can easily handle a RF CAI, deleted secondary cats, PRAY ported OEM IM/TB and any catback system out there.
Would probably see around 20rwhp gains and the car would be more fun and have a better more aggressive sound. That would be the limit of not being tuned from what I have seen.

Ported Intake/TB, Roto fab dry, and secondary cat deletes do not require a tune, but you wont get the full gains of those mods without tuning either. The fuel trims will be off a little(my LTFT were hovering around +7%) but the ECM will correct to some degree so the engine will run fine.

Ported throttle body, Roto-Fab intake for sure (you'll get the most HP out of this system without needing a tune) and it won't hurt to throw on a catch can
Lets us know if we can help getting you the best price around! Cheers, Kayla L. 801.545.4215 |

Will headers & cats cause a CEL with no tune?

Every time. You may not get it immediately, took my car a month or so to pop up, but you will eventually get a CEL with headers and no tune. The primary reason is that the sensors are moved from their factory locations so they have a delay in the readings. Additionally, whether you go with high flow cats or catless pipes the secondary sensors will read differently than factory because there is increased flow. This too will cause a CEL eventually.

Send the K&N back and get the Roto-fab Dry. As far as all the testing I have done it is the only one that maintains the MAF transfer function. You can also do my ported IM/TB, and cat back. An U/D is had to remove and easily spotable at the dealership. I have seen gains in the 25rw range with the above minus the cat back. If you have NPP the cat back is a bit of a waste of time unless it is a sound issue. Headers will throw a code.

A tune is an option. Just buy a secondary ecu for cheap and tune that one. If theres ever an issue just swap it back and itll show zero tunes or reflashes and factory untouched tune.

That doesn't work. The mileage doesn't match if they really want to drill down on it.
