GM already equips their vehicles with a gear lock... Though, currently only on 2nd gear, to force you into 4th, lol. And the reverse lock out, if I remember right

You’re talking about CAGS, computer assisted gear selection. Which locks out 2nd and 3rd when shifting under certain speed and RPM parameters to save fuel and emissions.

That’s not related to the clutch kill switch which prevents you from starting the car without depressing the clutch all the way to the floor. Thus preventing remote start.

And the modern electric parking brake do go out of adjustment just like the old cable driven ones do.

Our electronic parking brake still has a mechanical cable to pull the pads to the rotor. It just uses an electric motor to do it instead of a lever/pulley of a manual handle.

Having a remote start on a manual vehicle is not illegal, it is perfectly legal and can be had with any manual transmission vehicle as long as it is installed properly for safety reasons (i.e. door pins, no clutch bypass, tilt switch, etc. accompany the install). There are no federal, or state, regulations that prohibit their installation on manual transmission vehicles.

A clutch switch is easier to bypass, lol.

I'm aware what the CAGS is for, lol.

But it could also easily use the same hardware in the CAGS system to lock out all gears during the remote start cycle, making it just as safe as an automatic.

The CAGS system is not capable of locking out anything more than 2nd gear. It is just a solenoid blocker that pushes across and blocks the gate to 2nd gear, that is it. It is the same thing and concept as the reverse lockout solenoid.

SPeaking of the electric E-brake, will it actually engage if someone were to pull it while driving? I'm scared to try because when I test drove a Subaru sedan a year or two back it absolutely locked up the rear tires going down the road. And I was like....holy crap that's really scary to think some 10 year old kid could pull that on their parents

Yes, but the same technology could be applied to every gear.

But aftermarket remote starts can't be used to start a vehicle in gear unless you stay inside the vehicle to remote start it, lol.

Actually no it cant, there is no way to put a solenoid in place to block out the center gears (3rd and 4th) nor a way to block 5th and 6th due to reverse being over there already.

I take it you have never seen a Tremec 6spd manual transmission, there isnt much room in them. As it is now the lockout solenoids are mounted on the side of the transmission, there is no way to put them in the middle of the transmission as they would not be serviceable without pulling the transmission if they fail, and they do fail at times.

R&D could easily get something proper figured out.

The basic gist of it is, GM _could_ have remote start on manual transmissions. But there isn't enough demand for them to put the money into getting a system that meets federal regulations.

GM is capable of it, but they choose not to.
Just how they could have the cars shut down if you try driving without it in the vehicle (like other manufacturers do), but choose to let you drive forever, as long as you don't shut it off, lol.

Yes it will, I accidentally hit/pulled it when I was coming to a red light, scared the heck out of me

Pretty sure it only kicks in below a certain speed, doubt it kicks in at road speeds. Probably less than 5 - 10MPH

I knew someone in college that put a remote start on an old ass volvo. he tried to show off to some people, hit start.. the car was left in gear! it had enough torque to start running, plow into 3 cars and stop when it finally hit a tree. haha
