At your power levels I would be removing the cats as well

A plugged exhaust can lead to melted sensors, high temps, over heating, burnt carpet/insulation, burnt off underbody paint, can damage wires and other hoses that are anywhere near it, high trans temps, high diff temps, and even can cost you your entire engine.

Don't chance it. Cat-less or stock. Even the $900 GESI cats fail.

No I don't care that your buddies car lasted 40,000 miles with 4000 RWHP and your last car was fine for 150 standing mile passes.
^^^ This x 2. FWIW, environmental morality aside, yes, no cats will give off a gasoline smell. No cats will add some rasp to your exhaust sound too, typically under part throttle. But 1) the gasoline smell is subjective, you either accept it or you don't. Honestly, the smell on the ZE is minimal to me. My 2005 GTO with a much larger cam and obviously different tune/set of mods, was waaay more noticeable. So be careful to compare this car to cammed/more heavily modified builds as far as gasoline odors. The amount of rasp is somewhat subjective too, but from the exhausts I have heard, the Corsa system seems to rasp less with no cats, as does the ARH system that I run. Barely noticeable and only briefly at part throttle. Actually, it adds to the growl of the exhaust slightly, nothing bad about it. But for me, like most any mod, it comes down to risk tolerance. When you mod, stuff is more likely to break. A cat failure is enough of a possibility (not probability) that I chose to go catless, especially with a lower pulley change.

Believe it or not, my wife loves the smell of race gas. Weird.

Catless. My Z06 is catless, and all but my 5th gen ss were catless. The gas smell is not that noticeable tbh(decent tune). This is just my .02 but I like loud too.

If you have missing shrapnel from a CAT its pretty simple to locate and extricate from the straight pipes on a Camaro. If it made it in a muffler that's a different story but still nothing to get you panties in a bind over or justification for a global ban on CAT's.

This is primarily for stock and mild bolt on applications. Obviously, your 1000hp build would be the exception to the rule.
Damaged exhaust system and cat material being stuck inside of it kind of mean the same thing to me...If it were my car, there's no way I'm leaving it on there which means I'm spending, $1000-$2000 on new exhaust...

Alright, lol. I'll take all the "damaged" Kooks, ARH and Stainless Works systems off your hands.....

I’m running 2” ARH (no clearance issues) Catless into the NPP and wouldn’t change a thing. Only smell the thing if it’s in the garage. While driving down the Highway it’s as quite as it was stock in the interior. Mash the gas and it’s “raspy” but unlike anything else out there. It’s a sound all of it’s own.

This.

Can you post a sound clip?

Looking at the same mods as you but without cam and heads...wondering what it would sound like.

Just got my car back from getting headers and pulley. Went with the kooks green high flows. The smell is still there a little bit but not nearly as bad as catless. Loving them so far!

Just some info to throw out there for those that want it super loud...

When I had my Corsa Exhaust put on, they guy who did it grew up around open exhaust and as nice of a guy he is, his hearing was shot.

Maybe something to think about if you all want to hear when you get older.
