Turbo'd LT1

I apologize if there is another thread somewhere for this, but I am curious as to if anyone has turbo'd an LT1? I know Hellion has a twin turbo kit, but that was all I was able to find & I wasn't able to find much information on it. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other turbo kits, or shops who could custom build one? Also, looking for any insight when it comes to getting a turbo vs. supercharger with these engines. Any information would be helpful as I plan on doing this soon. Thanks.

The idealist in me would love to have a pair of small turbos, similar to the old AGP kit for the LS3 Camaro but, without them being huge turbos. Something that compliments the power band of the LT1 in general without attempting to break records. Ah, how nice that would be. Unfortunately, we have Hellion and one-off kits at our disposal at the moment.

agp has a kit for the 6th gen. last time I asked they were still selling them one at a time. it is a pretty nice setup. twin smallish high end turbos. bw efr units.

twin 62's like on the hellion kit and like I have may seem big but they are not. they are properly sized to be efficient and they are not the least bit laggy on these motors. if you go smaller yes they may be a little more responsive but will also be a little restrictive and not in the heart of their efficiency zone.

putting it another way with the smaller agp turbos you gain a slight amount of responsiveness and give up a slight amount of efficiency while giving up quite a bit of head room if you ever did want to turn it up. I suppose if you have a stick the smaller turbos might be noticeable.

Yeah. I just spoke with AGP today about their kit. I would only want 600whp tops and while there are other options available, I like having several to choose from. It’s also a weight balance thing, for me. I don’t want something hanging off of the nose of the car too much and top mounts are torque monsters. I already have traction issues with bolt ons with the OEM 1LE tires.

I remember the first LT engine I put a turbo on. Back in January of 2014. It was a brand new regular cab truck. We made about 750 wheel with it.

Top or bottom mount isn’t going to effect tq. If anything the agp will have a little more tq at low rpms because of the smallish turbos.

If you just want 600hp get a blower.

Hmm, maybe I didn’t explain that correctly, who knows. But yes, obviously placement isn’t going to impact torque. And as I previously stated, I could easily get a blower to achieve those goals or even stay all motor. The point, however, is moot as I am interested in options and variety. Exploring the options available should be something that every would-be enthusiast is doing.

Also, I should have expounded upon my statement about top mounts. I meant to say top mount super chargers, or positive displacement blowers.

That makes more sense.

I love my turbo set up but would never recommend it to anyone just looking for 600hp. The factory like fit and finish of some of the blower kits is a very nice feature.

Yeah, I can't disagree with that at all. I think I would prefer to have the power come on later in the RPM band, however. Even as it stands now, I don't have a lot of traction down low on the stock supercar 3's, so I can't imagine a system that provides substantially more torque. Mayhaps a procharger or ECS is more prudent for the task.

Yeah, if your not going to put on some sticky tires a pro charger makes more sense then some of the other options. A litttle softer and more progressive power delivery.
