Corsa Exhaust observations
After 2 days with this system I am LOVING it, however I have a question that has plagued me ever since the C5 LS days....
What is up with how the exhaust note changes?? Having an aftermarket exhaust always makes these changes more pronounced. Some times it sounds clear, strong and loud. Other times it sounds kinda muffled and spitty (if that makes sense). Is it something about the LS and LT motors that make the exhaust sounds inconsistent? Maybe fuel timing tables? It also always sounds more clear and loud when the A/C compressor is running. I am not talking about the cold start changes, I know that happens. I am talking about at normal operating temps. I have had after market exhausts on other cars in the past and they always sound the same regardless of outside factors.

I know exactly what you mean. Are you running their full setup or just the axleback?

Some people like the deep boomy/bassy systems, but I just love the screaming exotic sound of Corsa. To my ears and as an audiophile, it sounds/feels like being at an orchestra. Music to my ears. It actually has less drone frequencies than the stock system, just a more exotic screaming sound and louder. AND a lot more and louder snap, crackle, & pops on cold start.

I wish I could hear that setup in person to fully get the sound. The videos online are limited so it makes it tough to grasp the true volume and tone of the setup. I can tell you in stock form there are tone differences as well. It’s less pronounced since the Corsa setup is so much louder. I honestly think it’s just the characteristics of the motor.

I think it has to do with the fuel and timing tables. It tends to get the muffled and spitty sounds more after sitting in traffic and after it has run in the upper RPM's a few times in a short time frame. I even tried running 94 octane fuel in it to make sure it wasn't cutting any timing and it still does it. Even more baffling is when the A/C compressor is active, it never sounds muffled. Maybe because of the extra load on the motor, not sure. But I have noticed that same behavior on every Corvette I have had. So it must be a GM tuning thing.

This is just my two cents, but I noticed that the exhaust sounds started to not exactly line up with pedal position and load as I expected as I transitioned into vehicles with electronic throttles.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
