I got a 16 qt pan with built-in res at the auto parts store and a new oil filter wrench. That way I can just bring the pan into the parts store to recycle the old oil. Going to do the 1st oil change right now w/ M1 0w40 ESP and Wix XP.

Well hell. That's the wrong pic! I'm doing the 60606 this morning. Let's try again.

I forgot to buy a new pan before I started my first oil change, I think mine probably holds 12qt, had to very carefully pull it out from under the car and use a funnel on my grass to try and put the old oil back the jugs.

One things is I did put in a dimple mag plug. I noticed it was 13mm nut compared to 15mm on the stock. At first I thought they sent the wrong one, but I used the supplied bolt sizer and both where M12x1.75. Seemed to fit fine. Atleast it is off two sizes instead of one so a tech wont strip round the head.

Yes. What Ryephile said...

The OEM filter is VERY GOOD.

The last thing you want is a motor problem and they try to pin it on your re-branded Champion Oil Filter.

FloTool or whatever the brand is 16qt works well. I have a 12qt open one also that I use on my truck (496ci plus a very large commercial filter - I think it's around 7.5-8qts now) but when I went to use it on the Camaro I had to be very careful not to make a huge mess getting it out from under the car.

Get an oil filter wrench from advance auto/autozone/etc when you pickup one of the OEM filters.

The oil fill location does somewhat suck, most of my funnels didn't fit well - ended up having to use a small opening one.. 10 qts at a slow pour sucks.

I used the OEM AC Delco filter, not one that ends in E (economy Walmart made). 10 quarts of the Valvoline MST 5-40 at Napa for a stupid deal.

I made a funnel out of a 1L M1 oil container with a knife, it allows for a very fast pour with the large opening.

One other thing that might be useful to some is to cut a slot into the top of your jackstands for the pinch weld to sit into. I couldn't get my larger stands with a slot in the middle to fit and only had smaller ones with curved sides that fit. Even then there wasn't enough room to center them exactly so the pinch would come down on a curved surface, which is bad. A few minutes with a cutting blade on a small grinder was all it took to make a slot for the pinch weld to sit into.

Jacking it up was even worse, I used a heavy rubber slotted pad combined with a hockey puck to lift it. You'll definitely need something, just a jack isn't going to work. I could see buying the alum lift points sold by ZL1 add-ons.

Anyways, I probably spent 45 minutes just getting the car on jackstands without damaging it. It's way more difficult than actually changing the oil.

Dexos1is not fully synthetic. I would use Dexos2 which is fully synthetic.
