it's sad a simple stupid entertainment system can't just utilize a standard open interface (physical and software) so that we're not locked into whatever low cost, overpriced junk the manufacturer puts in the car.
We've taken so many steps backwards from the days of 1din / 2din stereos. |

I have a '17 2LT RS and was going through the settings of the Infotainment system. There's a menu under settings called "Open Source" or something like that and it pulls up a link that basically says that the operating system is open source (like an Android) but it's running on Linux. Under this notion, I would imagine that if GM doesn't upgrade the OS then maybe someone else could figure out how to self install it? I'm not a developer, but maybe someone with better knowledge could figure out how to tweak the open source code of the 2019 Camaro into an self-install flash for the 16s-18s. Similar to how people root and flash thier Android phones to custom roms.
Please excuse the upside down photo. The picture I took is not upside down, yet Camaro Forums keeps flipping to this way and there no settings to switch it back to original orientation. Link: x.co/boschcmoss
