After my warranty is out I may do a cam and tune. Will do the lifters then.

Disabling the AFM does reduce the chance of lifter failure, but doesn't eliminate it completely.

The system isn't worth the 1MPG it gains, lol

Note that my car is a 1LE which is a manual and does not have AFM enabled. 2900 miles and a lifter failure.

Cgocifer- Man that sucks!! I hope they make it all right for you soon. My SS with 2100 has been ticking up front, clunking in the rear, and squeaking on the inside lol. My ticking could be a lifter too. Who knows? I love the Camaro, but I don’t know how much more of this ticking time bomb I’m willing to take to be honest.

Definitely have it checked out if you think you have some abnormal sounds or symptoms. These are noisy engines and the injectors do tick along with the fuel pump. Do as much investigating yourself as possible and go listen to a couple new ones if possible for comparison.

I second your sentiment Stylo. After my warranty is up, Im going to do some reliability modifications to the valve train.

Not saying the diagnosis was wrong, but nothing in that video sounded like a lifter. If you can get more details / pics when they do the repair, that would be great.

5500 miles and I drive it like I stole it, even hit fuel cut off once, lol. Not worried about it one bit. If this was a big problem, we'd have a 44 page engine issue thread like in the GT 350 forums on ms6. A bad lifter will reveal itself in time and will be obvious.

Sounds like a plan! Now I HAVE to mod my car after warranty is over. For safety and reliability. Yeah, that's it... reliability.

I can understand wanting to get rid of a problematic car, but look at the alternatives... assuming you don't want to spend more $ I'm not sure what else I'd be looking at.

Reviving an old thread here. Same car with similar issue, but the ticking is not as loud nor does it seem Metallic. It is mostly on the passenger side. Could it be direct injection Or something more serious ? Only noticeable at low rpm. Trying to upload videos ASAP.

Sorry to hear that. I have a 6m SS so I have the POS AFM lifters also. May be giving Livernois a call to replace the cam/heads/etc.

Your SS sounds just like mine. However I think a collapsed lifter would come with more symptoms. I have a 5.3 silverado with AFM and it started tapping last year with 70K. I checked it out and noticed that I'd lost a few exhaust manifold bolts. Truck was running perfect at the time. I could have swore it was a lifter just based on the sound. So you may want to get a second, maybe even a third opinion before they go tearing it apart.
