This sounds like internet paranoia to say the least.... As I said before, mine has been gone for years. Two 3.5 inch exhaust pipes and a 4 inch driveshaft ensured it wouldn't fit....

I think you should throw the steel brace in the scrap bin and forget about it

I think if you have to pound on it and add spacers there is probably another problem.
