Bang for buck power adds
Ford powerstroke Diesel tried to roll coal and pass the family and I in the car the other night. Pulled two car lengths on him and he gave up. We get up to the light and he wants to race. Told him no, I got the kid in the back. Light turns green and he rolls coal all over my pretty car.
This has me irritated. I need more power. I don't appreciate someone blowing black soot and oil all over me. I need more off the line grunt. So, if this happens again I can get ahead of the smoke. Only the launch I want to focus on. If I can get my 0-60 up I don't care so much about top speed. Gears? Or should I go with something else? Exhaust plus CAI? Looking for opinions.

Reaction time wouldn't have matter on this one. 4x4 heavy modded truck. I would've got him in the long run but when he hit the gas on the line he was moving quick.

How often are you going to be lined up first in line next to a diesel truck that isn't stock.
Seems to me you are letting others dictate what you do. Why not be happy knowing that you will have 30 seconds on him when there are any turns in the road. These days of auto trannys, dual clutches, electric cars, the power is not in favor of a manual car anymore. Unless you are going to use launch control at every light you are at. The 1LE is a track car, not a light to light racer.

I don't think the problem is your car. A stock 2017 powerstroke diesel runs 0-60 in a 8.04 seconds. I doubt you or I will ever encounter one that has been modded enough to beat a gen 6 camaro SS, regardless of whether it's an auto or a manual.
Besides, racing a truck is definitely punching down. No way I'm going to lower myself to compete with a rolling brick. |

I watched an older unassuming jacked up Dodge diesel run 12.2 @ 116 mph. That would give most camaro’s a run for the money on the street.

I doubt it. I've been running sports cars for 40 years now and I've never encountered a truck that was a serious threat. Not that there aren't hopped up trucks out there, there are, but they're few, far between, and typically not DD. Racing a truck is like fighting a little guy. You can't win. If you finish first, so what you were supposed to, and if you don't, you just got beat by a truck/little guy. |

I have a friend that DD's his 1280 lb ft of torque Duramax. Running into suped up diesels is pretty common around here. They are easy to modify. EFI live, and a few mods and they will put some pretty nasty numbers down in the 1/4 mile.
It's not that I'm letting others dictate what I do. I just don't want black smoke pooped all over my car Everytime one sees me and thinks they need to fill my convertible full of coal. I have a 17 1SS vert with A8. Im running 4.4-4.6 0-60 times according to our lovely built in timer. Not sure if it's the tires, or I don't know how to launch this car.

well to be fair any power additions will need a tune before any gains will be present.
so if you're looking to void your warranty and gain some, Id start with some good tires (Michelin PS4s are really good). if that doesn't float your boat and you're ready to void the warranty I would start with E85 (if available in your area) headers and ported TB/IM. thatll get you up a little bit. |

I must not be using launch mode correctly. I push the TC button twice and it goes into competitive mode. Then I switch to track. Stomp the brake, push the gas. It revs up, soon as I let off it lights the tires up for a good 20 ft. Before it hooks. When I do it that way I'm running 5.0 flat 0-60. If I leave TC on and just mash the gas I'm averaging around 4.6
