Power seems low

Curious how much the hot weather here in Florida affects the power. When I bought my car at the end of April I couldn’t keep the tires from spinning. Lately it just feels weak. Only things I have done is drop in a K&N air filter and pull the sound plate out of the supercharger lid, which I actually put back in. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Turn off traction control and mash it. If the tires dont spin you are way down on power.

No the heat doesn’t help but we are at sea level. Mine lights em up from a dig with full nannies on.

Get an OBDII reader on it and look for BadThings(TM): high IAT, knock retard/timing pulls, extra rich, etc... Check coils and plugs. Change your fuel. Fuel economy drop off?

Put it back to stock and make sure you don’t have oil in the MAF sensor from that K&N, or an air leak in the SC lid gasket. IIRC you’re supposed to replace the SC lid gasket if you open it. And now that I said this you’ll see three pages of “I’ve had mine open ten times and it’s fine.”

Finally, check it on a dyno and have a tuner look at it. Then if all else fails, take it to a dealer.

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely check up on those things. Fuel economy has not dropped off and boost doesn’t seem to have changed going by the gauge. I know that’s not an accurate portrayal FWIW. It will definitely spin from a dig but not from a roll like before.

What else is different between April and now besides just ambient temps & humidity? Brand new tires with mold release still on them back in April? Stock goodyears are very temperature sensitive. They will spin at 2-3 shift below 70F even on a coarse surface. Much below 60F and you're on marbles. You'll understand this coming winter

I noticed it too. Doesn't feel like the same car.

Nothing has changed other than what has been mentioned. Put the stock filter back in and checked MAF sensor. Didn’t notice any oil/particles on it. Oddly enough, I got a check engine light and “reduced engine power” after checking the sensor. Pulled negative battery cable and it went away. Seems to be running a bit better for now. I think this is a sign to leave the car bone stock, other than some visual stuff.

Based on my experience in Arizona without significant humidity I think ambient temperature is the biggest variable you are experiencing (Ultimately impacting traction level more than any significant changes in horsepower).

Prior to replacing my stock Goodyears with R888Rs, my car (in the winter with temps below 70ish) would spin the tires as you described. With our crazy summer heat and extremely hot pavement the car hooked up very well (night and day difference from cooler ambient temp. situation). Obviously part of that could be due to significant changes in power output, but my feeling is that in my situation it is mainly changes in traction I’ve noted which are admittedly dramatic. There are obviously quite a few variables, but it would be interesting to see what level of actual horsepower loss occurs as ambient temperature increases.

I live in south TX and Temps here are in the 100s with humidity of a whole lot of wet. I can spin the tires at will in 2nd and 3rd. Sometimes on the highway at 75 punching it I can feel it get a bit loose but I’ll pedal that. I’m not noticing any power loss.

Well, I got 3.6 before so I do need to try again. Unfortunately, there aren’t many “closed courses” close to me 😂
