That right there is why people in this country are tired of a lot of crap that people like you do and say. Shut up and quit complaining about stuff that is NOT hurting you no matter what your opinions are. The ninny-nanny state that this country has become is BEYOND ridiculous and it needs to stop.

If someone isn't breaking the law, shut up and stay out of their business. You're not going to die.

Good God.

The retired person that left the note seriously needs to get a grip. The OP wasn't revving the engine or being obnoxious in any way. The entire ordeal lasts probably less than 5 minutes. Plus the person is retired. They have all day to sleep if they choose.

Why does the OP have to jump through hoops to be quieter? Why can't the person that left the note wear earplugs or something if it bothers them that much?

Holy Sh!tballs people.

GET A GRIP!!

This is so easy. Just: 1) Leave garage door closed when starting the car (if parked in a garage) 2) Leave car in Tour mode so that its only loud for a few sounds before the valves close 3) Start the car on stealth mode which solves it completely.

That's all it would take to keep happy neighbors.

You guys saying the OP should simply ignore this or make it worse by revving the engine or getting louder pipes are simply @ss hats. Sorry, but that's the way it is. This coming from a person that leans right in political opinions rather than left, so don't talk to me about wanting a "ninny nanny" state.

lol...ok sure. So the person with the loud car shouldn't have to jump through hoops, but the person just trying to sleep should jump through hoops? You guys should put yourself in my shoes once and try to start this car up in the morning with sleeping young children in the house. LOL...I'd love to see your opinions on this then.

I don't think many of you here either understand or care what it means to be a good neighbor and put some trust or build a bit of a rapport with them.

This is what I do, and I don't get complaints.

There is no way it's "that" loud inside the house unless it's right next to his garage or the road and the neighbor has their window open or something. These cars aren't "that" loud when taking it easy, even in track mode. It's not like he's got a cam and full exhaust. Then his car would be louder on stealth mode than stock is on track. Then what?

I'm not saying I wouldn't try to do what I could to be as quiet as possible but the person that left the note is coming across as a spoiled brat that is nitpicking the OP. These cars aren't that loud until you get on it.

Starting in stealth mode doesn't seem to affect the initial action of the valves. After the initial loud explosion, it then quiets down.

What "right there"? Wanting to get along with neighbors is now bad? Wanting to not wake up people who have worked all their lives and managed to make it to retirement, just so I can have 10 extra seconds of exhaust bark, after they asked if I could tone it down a little? What kind of an infantile nitwit wants to awaken their neighbors when it would be so easy not to?

People like me? What people are those? People who consistently vote for small government and lower taxes? People who reject political correctness? People who spent many a weekend practicing airmobile assaults and dragging an M14 around in the reserves? People who have to buy ammo by the case because they go through it? People who would just as soon tell you to eff off as look at you? Because that's the kind of people I am, Dr. Einstein.

If you cannot distinguish between being a good neighbor and the mess that the left has made of our school systems, media, and government, I don't know what to tell you, Skippy.

...because a thread about the tone of an exhaust is somehow the best place to have a discussion about government, left, right, media and school systems.

OP here - This escalated quickly, lol...........So I tried starting the car in Stealth mode and it sounds exactly the same to me on startup. I'll have to try selecting stealth before starting it to see if there is any difference. The interesting part is that I also have a 67 Firebird with quite a few mods (substantially louder). I do take this to work occasionally, maybe 2-3 times in a month in nice weather. The anonymous neighbor does not seem to have a problem with that. I've also spoken with most of my surrounding neighbors and they have no idea what this person is talking about (no noise issues). I'm planning on showing up at the next HOA meeting and see what comes up. Also, I'd like to point out I definitely do not live in any sort of retirement community, I have no idea where the author of the letter obtained his figure on the number of retirees. At the end of the day, I feel I've been a good neighbor and will continue to be a good neighbor. There are plenty of things I could nitpick about in my neighborhood, but I don't because people have to live their lives.

I think i noticed mine is quieter on startup if shutoff in Stealth, will ahve to verify this because if I switch it to stealth prior to startup I can hear the valve actuate but it's still loud AF the first few seconds.

I'd like to address the house thing good sir - I have a sleeping young child in my home and have had guests stay with us when I've had to go off to work in the morning. It has not awakened them. My kid sleeps through me starting the car every morning.

^^ yes, but sir, did you ensure that the "left" did not cause this issue, it is certainly the cause of most, I highly suggest you weed out any on the left before proceeding.

lol.

Bass from assholes that refuse to turn their stereos down when riding through a residential area pisses me off more than loud exhaust does. That being said, some people will complain just to complain. Multiple reasons, some people just suck. Those of us that want to enjoy life, have to put up with the douchebags of the world. No one else in this thread has to live there but you. You know what you need to do to live there peacefully and be able to stare at your self in the mirror. The note thing is shitty, grown people don't conduct business that way.
