PIC6254B - Information On Servicing The 3M Vinyl Hood Wrap

Condition:

All 2017 - 2018 Camaro 1LE cars come equipped with a 3M brand vinyl hood wrap that is applied before the cars arrive at the dealership. These various hood wraps can be seen in the photos below. Some dealerships may be looking for additional information on this wrap when it comes to care, cleaning, or in some situations, replacement of the entire hood wrap.

Cause:

These 3M hood wraps are all made of a matte finished vinyl material and all of them are black in color. They can be damaged if they are not cared for properly. The most common complaints are smudges or stains that are usually the result of fingerprints, improper cleaning practices, and/or products or leaves that remain on the car and create an outline on the vinyl. In some situations, the customer may even comment about small rips / other physical damage to the wrap itself.

Correction
If any suspect damage is found on one of these hood wraps, dealerships are to first attempt to clean the hood before taking any other action.

Hand washing is recommended using 3M or Meguiar's car care products. Immediately rinse the vehicle and dry the graphic with a soft squeegee and/or soft cloth to help restore the graphic's luster.

Touchless car washing systems may be used. To avoid water spotting on graphic, always go through the drying cycle.

To remove tar and bugs from the graphic, use a commercial cleaner designed for such use, but do not rub vigorously. Immediately wash with regular cleaning solution, rinse with water, and dry.

If the concern remains and it's determined a new hood wrap is needed, the 1LE hood wrap (Hood Wrap Decal) can be obtained thru GM Service Parts. The V6 and V8 1LE use the same part number hood wrap. It will be necessary to cut the holes in the hood wrap to accommodate the V8 hood vents however. The 1LE hood wrap must be installed by a 3M certified technician. If your dealership/body shop does not have a 3M certified installer, contact 3M Technical Assistance at 1-800-328-3908 for contact information of the local 3M representative.

If the repairs are covered under the terms of the bumper-to-bumper warranty, photos of the entire car and localized damage to the hood wrap should be taken and submitted as a Field Product Report.
