If anything, this affirms that I'd have zero issues buying anything VR. Ron has shown amazing patience with this guy shoving the blame around to everyone but himself.

I'll comment again once the shop gets around to my vehicle, whether or not the results are in my favor.
They've got a line of builds going on, car probably won't be done for at least a couple months(at best). My experience with full motor builds from any shop is that they're never done in a timely manner, and I don't expect any different here. Tech wasn't able to get anything relevant off the ecu's memory since the battery has been disconnected/reconnected. Can't get blackbox info unless the car is brought into a dealer, and I won't be doing that until after the car is done.

I would assume only the dealer can pull engine status before check engine, things like rpm and vehicle speed, which gear the trans was in etc. Good luck, I think you are being realistic no car for a few months.

Missing a shift (neutral vs. downshifting in error) at those rpm's at WOT is still going to result in additional rpm rise due to inertia and in some added valve bounce off the seat.
Unless you have a cam / valve / valve spring combo that has been run on a Spintron to see how controlled the valvetrain is at a given rpm, you have no idea of how well controlled the valve events are and how much bounce is seen at different rpm's. If already tight on piston-to-valve clearance, which, without degreeing the cam in is totally unknown, the results can easily be this with too high of an rpm. Below is a good (old) article about testing for valvetrain stability, measuring valve bounce, etc. While it is on a LS7, the engineering behind it applies. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/140...xhaust-valves/ |

The amount of difference in pitch between the 'normal' shift points in the video, and the 'over rev' clearly sounds like it grabbed 2nd. The motor screams for a split second. If someone with audio software took the frequency of the exhaust at the shift points and assumed it's around 6500rpm, it should be fairly easy to get a rough estimate of the rpm immediately before the magic smoke came out of the exhaust. I'm thinking I'm hearing 8k easy.
But that's just my opinion. Last edited by twoballscrewball; 08-20-2018 at 01:26 PM. Reason: typo |

Here's what 8000rpm sounds like, for reference.
I'd bet my lunch that was not a free rev. |

If the car had PDR, was it on? I don’t remember that in the thread but easily could have missed it.

I think it is easier to "see" if you close your eyes and just listen to the RPM.. If I push in the clutch pedal, top of any gear, pedal to the metal my RPM hovers... there is no change in the engine voice,

No argument here. Does the PDR always record? I don't have a 1LE, but wow maybe he could just get the PDR record. Heck it looks like he could just pull the chip and watch it on his laptop, assuming it was recording. Cool, wish I had a 1LE...

If he had the optional PDR, you have to activate it, but, it can be started while the car is in motion. In heavy traffic, I often keep mine running all the time as a dash cam in case I get hit or something on road happens. You just choose to not save / delete the given file at the end of the recording or anythime after.
