Can you add 1-2 gal. of E85 to CA 91 Oct. as an octane booster?
I am in CA and all we have here is 91 Octane.
I do have a couple of 100 Octane stations near me, but at $8+ / Gal., it would be far cheaper to use 1-2 gal. of E85 to bring the octane up. Is this safe to do on the LT1 with everything in stock form?

Why not just do the flex fuel kit and you can run a full tank of E85?

Bad idea. You would need the flex fuel sensor and a tune to use e85 properly.

Because my car is 3 weeks old, I do not want to void the warranty for a couple years.

The flex fuel kit is easily reversible and you can just flash the stock tune back on.

Unfortunately, putting the stock tune back on doesn't aid his situation. As soon as he tunes the car, the warrant is shot. Flashing it back to stock won't change that.

I'll consider it in a couple years and just leave it and damn the dealer, but its too early for that now.

You would get nothing out of E85 without a sensor & tune or piggyback controller with a virtual sensor -- you may even risk harm without some tuning assistance.
Even the piggybacks with virtual sensors are not what I would consider the safest. You get x gallons of E85, then fill the rest of your tank with the highest octane E10 you can get. After that you have to drive your car side to side to ensure good fuel mix and make 3 WOT passes for the piggyback to use the knock sensor to determine your mixture and octane rating before it will properly remap your AFR. You have to do this every time you fill up. Only safe routes are to blind tune at E60 equivalent (not preferred) or get a flex fuel sensor and proper tune that will adjust whether you run full E10 or full E85 (and any blend ratio of the two). |

You still are not going to gain anything until you tune and turn the timing up. These engines are tuned spot on for 91 octane or higher. Simply adding more octane won't do much unless you tune for it. That being said many dealerships will not void warranty for a tune. Just have to feel them out.

There are times when the exhaust note is clean, crisp and other times when it sounds muffled and has a sputtering sound to it, usually when it is hot outside and when you are in commute traffic. The LT1 has a compression ratio of 12:1, that is beyond 91 octane in certain conditions for full HP & TQ

I LOVE the TTRS and my 2013 TTRS was one of the best cars I have ever had. I test drove one and really wanted the new TTRS, but I could not justify the $80K price tag when you compare it to the 1LE, that I got for $44K The TTRS has AWD and a much faster 0-60 time and the prestige of the Audi brand, but from a performance standpoint other than straight-line, the 1LE does everything else better. Granted, I would have put about $8-10K more into it, which makes it even better, but still that becomes even a greater disparity to the value of the 1LE. I also looked hard at the ZL1 1LE, but I had to be honest with myself, I do not track my car and there is no way I could justify a ZL1 1LE as a daily driver. The SS 1LE was the perfect compromise. Now, if the crypto market takes off in the next few years, I might see myself in a GT3 RS, but until then, I am VERY happy with the SS 1LE
