Imho you have 3 options....

1) Get the TCM tuned asap after purchasing a A8 car to eliminate AFM and the TCC slip tables. This may void your warranty but it is a true fix to the problem as long as the converter is not already toast.

2) Get the converter replaced with the updated unit or purchase a good aftermarket converter from FTI or Circle D.

3) Trade the A8 car for a A10 or Manual.
Anyone try the Range AFM defeater? Corvette guys are using it.

Some of the Corvette guys seem to think the AFM is the primary cause of the shutter. Something about locking and unlocking the converter.

I think i just got the shudder crap going on now. I am feeling like little bumps on highway when i accelerate harder, i am guessing the AFM is causing this shudder shit. Almost feels like a vibration. Hope they see what the heck i mean at the dealer when i bring it in. I am just under 15,000 miles...

They will know exactly what the issue is. You're not alone.

I use the Range AFM Delete. Leave it plugged in all the time. Zero issues with it. Been using it for a couple months now (2-3 K miles). No CEL's. Just be sure you get the latest version. Best money i have spent on the car.

Just got mine wrapped up, new TC. Took months and two different dealers. Be persistent. Good luck.

Update on my Camaro.....Finally after almost 3 weeks at the dealership it's done- it has a new TC. It's going to be tough as I have to pick up the car and immediately turn it over to the dealer I traded it into. I had a perfect storm occur and made a very hasty decision to trade in the car. The weekend before it went to the dealership I was so upset I shopped around for a new car- to potentially trade it in and also my C4 Corvette- that I have not been able to sell for 6 months- which is stored at my house, which is for sale. I had my Camaro and the C4 appraised at the local Ford dealership. 2 days right after this my Camaro goes in, my C4 completely dies and my house supposedly sells- a cash buyer and wants to close in 3 weeks. I panic- need to get rid of the C4, no where to store or park it with my house selling, so the Ford dealer contacts me to do a deal on a Mustang GT. They offer me 4K cash for the C4 and 25K for the Camaro. I do the deal- I tell them about the Camaro in the shop and the C4. They come get the C4, take it anyway and have been hounding me for the Camaro- which has been in the shop for the new TC. I have the GT, can't say I love it, wish I had a crystal ball and knew my house was not going to sell and I did not have to rush my decision. I did test drive 3 other Camaros with M/T during my shopping spree, they did not drive or track well- something was wrong with them. I also drove a used C7 Corvette- that the dealer told me had differential problems- but they were supposedly fixed. So I preferred to not buy GM again. The GT drove the best of all of the cars. But if I could have my Camaro back- it drove better than any of the cars I test drove and feels so much lighter and handles better than the GT. And I got 30 MPG in the Camaro- the GT- same commute gets 15! Oh well, that's the way it goes. I don't think I am going to have the GT very long- I can sell it to CarMax. After losing 10K on the Camaro and probably 10K on the GT maybe it's time for a cookie cutter car- a boring Corolla, LOL.

What happens if you pass the 36k powertrain warranty, but have had this issue doc'd & serviced(flushed) previously and at at 40 or 45 it reoccurs will it be 'grandfathered covered' ?
BTW, I purchased this car with 27k never had the shudder issue no service records for it and now at 33k it's happening, so compared to some of you guys happening early on mileage mine has gone pretty long FWIW.

Final comment and my close out on this- I picked up the car (with the Ford dealer salesperson), expressed my grief to the Service Advisor- and that I had already traded the car in.

Her exact words to me- this is a Service Advisor for the GM dealership: "You are better off- the A8 transmission is pure crap".

I'm still devastated over all of this- and I lost 10K depreciation on the Camaro in one year.

I know how you feel. I am pretty pissed off at GM for these crappy A8 transmissions. I am glad I purchased the GMPP extended warranty so I can keep the car for 5 more years witout worries. After that I will either have to get rid of it or extend the warranty which will be very expensive on a 6 year old car. GM should warrany these A8's for lifetime to the original owners.

It's not the transmission, it's the torque converter. The 8l90 is a stout transmission. Funny nobody calls the Tr6060 trash when the manual guys trash a clutch....
