balancer swap shouldn't require any tuning....just reduces parasitic drag on the engine thus freeing up a few ponies.

No tuning changes are needed for the UDP. I honestly don't think I have duplicated a cam yet. They have all been customs. |

Thanks guys, been thinking about adding the ATI. A few extra HP would be nice, but mainly it may provide some extra protection for the engine.

Does anyone know how big of a cam can be safely run before you need to fly cut?
I’ve never done it. Don’t have the tools. Etc. I’ll probably go with the biggest cam I can fit without a fly cut |

If I remember TSP's stance on it correctly, because these kinds of scenarios come up with ls3 vehicles as well, TSP doesn't want to sell camshafts that require flycutting, because they do not believe that the average owner does not want to flycut their pistons, so they cater their products towards that.

Why yes, yes I do. It isn't a specific number like 223 or what not. It seems to be an IVO of about 6* BTDC will clear with a .006" clean up mill on the stock gasket. How you get there is on you. Now there is some wonky stuff going on with this cam phaser. I have seen some peoples cams have a 9* or higher IVO. If you check PTV with the phaser locked out you won't have clearance past 6* IVO. But I have heard the phaser retards 4* or so upon start up and that becomes the new 0. I can't confirm or deny this. I just don't know how the phaser would be able to retard at all with a 0* phaser limiter in it. Some people say you can pressurize the phaser and check PTV that way. I will say that I pushed it pretty darn far with my NBK cam trying to maximize DCR. I figured I may run into issues. But I spun it to 7,300 or so at the Fest with no issues. Hopefully someone smarter than me has a better answer. |

You lost me at phaser.
I stopped thinking engines and started thinking star wars. on a serious note: Would it be a safe assumption that the added PTV clearance with the thicker factory gasket is more beneficial than running the thinner cometic head gasket with less ptv but more compression?

If you keep the cam smaller you can run a Cometic and still make a ton of power. Ask me how I know. LOL.

So it sounds like the PTV is a bit tighter on the LT1 vs a LS3?

So the million question, is what are we looking at for a max effort, no flycut, bump up compression by thinner head gaskets and maybe milling heads cam?
