New Toy - '18 2SS M6 Conv
First, I'm a 67 year old male who has had a love affair with American muscle since the early sixties. I got my license (16 years old!) the same model year the Camaro emerged, however in my younger years, I was more enamored with the mid-sized muscle (SS396's, GTO's, etc.) than the pony car (maybe that is because I'm 6'4" and mid 200#s.
Anyway, as I became more personally affluent in the 70's, I found myself with nothing but ponycars left to buy, so I did. I had 4 2nd gens and 1 3rd gen, and loved them all. I was all set to spring for a 4th gen when it came out, but I was shocked when I saw it in person. It looked (to me at least) like a caricature of the 3rd gen. I loved it mechanically, but could not abide the looks, so I migrated to BMWs. Curiously, I found the beamers were a work of art in several aspects (especially the smoothness of the sixes), but left something to be desired in the power department. Which brings us up to the later 2000's. I cried when I saw the 5th gen Camaro pix from the Detroit Auto Show. It was a thing of beauty. However the planets never exactly lined up for me to get a fifth gen. In the meantime, I had started a business in which I drove locally quite a bit, so I got something I thought would get a bit better mileage (it really didn't), a small Volvo wagon. That was a mistake, but that's another story. My wife told me one day to get a new car, she hated that Volvo and so did I, so it didn't take a lot of convincing. After looking at some cars locally, I decided to get a new Camaro. I like to tell people that my inner 17 year old got loose one day and since he knew I was looking at new cars, he ordered me one. Since his signature looks just like mine, I had to take it when it arrived. And now, I'm glad he did! This car is the most well built, refined car I've ever owned; not to mention easily the quickest. I read people bitching about nitnoid stuff on these forums and wonder what they drove before this. A car of this design refinement, performance, and quality for under $50K (for under $70K, for that matter) does not exist anywhere else in this world. This thing even fits me to a T (except the back seat is miniscule, but I don't care). Since I am a veteran of several earlier F-bodies, I expected a lot of deficiencies, but they just aren't there. Granted, its a bit over the top in some respects, but I can overlook that when the guy at the stoplight looks over to me and gives me a double-barreled thumbs up as he's driving a minivan. And that has happened! On to business though. I recently took it to a hand car wash locally, which did an awesome job BTW, but I noticed when I got home, I had no mats in the rear. I could have sworn that this car came with mats in the rear (matching the front). Am I imagining that or did that car wash forget to put them back in. I want to know for sure before I start screaming at them. Can anyone tell me definitively that my car came with rear mats? Anyway here's my car: |

Beautiful car and story, thanks for sharing
![]() (AFAIK the car comes with no rear mats. Two or three months after delivery I bought a set of Lloyd Ultimats that are miles better than the originals, and that set included rears.)

Your story sounds like my automotive history, as I am 63 and have owned many Chevelles, Camaros, a 84 Monte Carlo SS, and still have the 79 Corvette that I bought in 87 as a daily driver back then. Love the GRT color as we bought my 17 year old son a new GRT Camaro RS V6 A8 for his 1st car. The floormats? Only came with plain black fronts unless a mistake was made at the dealer. Go to shop.chevyparts.com. Genuine GM parts and buy a set of 4 "SS' floor mats. Can get dark gray with black stripes and a red "SS' embrowdered (sp) in the center. Back mats the same without the red "SS". We got RS for my son for Christmas. Look great. They are usually on sale with the 5% new customer discount . List is $140 through dealer. Much better deal here and great service. Hope this helps. Beautiful SS vert you have! PS: If you have your window sticker it shows front floor mats standard. If they goofed up, some set of four (SS?) mats would be listed in the options. Just looked - GM list $140 their price $105, set includes front and back. Styles available are SS, or the words Camaro or Performance.

Many happy miles sir. A beautiful car indeed. On Thursday, for my 62nd birthday I purchased a certified pre owned ‘17 SS vert. I couldn’t be happier! Just go back to the car wash and ask. I’m sure that they wouldn’t take offense if you just ask. Next stop is the dealer.

dfmoeller's new car is a SS. He was asking if he was supposed to have front and year floormats. My son's car is a RS and only came with plain black front mats. We bought him a set of front and back "RS" mats for this past Christmas. If his vert is a 2SS as it looks in the pics, it may have came with back mats also and as he noted the car wash may have failed to put them back. If not, he can check shopchevyparts.com. I would never put SS items on a non SS vehicle and I know and have owned a 65 El Camino, 66 Malibu coupe, 72 Malibu 350, 72 Chevelle SS 350, 75 Camaro RS, 79 Z 28, 70 Chevelle SS396 (wish I had never sold it), 64 Malibu SS vert, 84 Monte Carlo SS and still have my 79 vette I bought in 87. As noted my 17 year old son's first car is a 17 Camaro RS. There is nothing worse in my opinion than trying to pass a car off as something it's not. PS: If his SS is a 2LT as it looks in the pics, it may well have come with back mats which may have been left at the car wash.

My 2018 2SS vert did indeed come with front and rear floor mats.
dfmoeller, awesome ride. I purchased the metallic black with a 2-tone black/red seats. I had a ceramic coating put on mine - really made a HUGE difference in terms of the finish. Would look awesome on yours. |

You can get the build list for your exact VIN. When I bought my ZL1 the dealer forgot to take off the spacers on my springs, so my brother got us our build sheets for my car and his SS, just to see what else the dealer forgot. He had yet to pick up his HBM 1SS and was quite surprised at his build list. He had 2 sets of floor mats, including the standard two and the four SS mats; what we found out though was that mine was supposed to come with a car cover, which it didn't. Dealer of course made us right.
So get your build sheet and see everything that you should have gotten with your vehicle it will have what type of mats came with it. EDIT: Completely forgot, AWESOME car! What is the name of that color, I love it. |

Garnet Red Tintcoat (aka Caught Red Handed) G7E WA132X And yeah, I didn't order any floor mat package, which is probably why I only got the basic front mats.
