IMO, it's not worth the hassle. Besides, the pad sits so far back anyways, I wouldn't use it even if it did work.
I just use a wired connection and keep it in the cup holder. Or you can buy one of those clip on holders that work on the side knee pad area. Total waste of space, I would rather have an additional USB port back there or storage space. While GM has come a long in quality and the Camaro is especially killing it right now, this is the one feature that still says "old GM". It reminds me of the "dual zone" climate system that was in my C5 Z06, that didn't't actually work at all and changing the passenger settings has no effect whatsoever.
