Race Insurance
What kind of insurance are you guys using to cover you and your car during track days?
The dude at Geico says they don't offer any policy add-ons...

Def. a smart move. If you never plan on driving "that" hard, there's always someone else who will drive above and beyond their ability putting you and your goods at risk!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears none of these places cover liability... they cover the car only.
So if we're on a track together, and I crash into you, they'll pay for our cars, but if you're in a coma for two months, I'm on the hook to cover the medical bills. Right?

Correct vehicle only, never seen a policy for liability at the track.
Maybe I’m the paranoid type, but I have almost 20 yrs of experience and plan on getting hpde insurance at least till I’m comfortable with the car. This will be the highest hp car that I’ve taken to the track. I’ve had the privilege to drive faster, but not on track and certainly not 7-8/10ths for a weekend. Side note, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas in terms of the event I signed up for Labor Day! Just food for thought. Yes it adds cost, but also peace of mind.

Tracking the car with a group of other races and not having liability insurance seems crazy to me, to the point I won't do it, which is a shame cause I wanted to get after it! There's a good event being planned at Sebring this December which I wanted to go to. There's just too much risk. I'm not gonna jeopardize everything I've worked for so I can run the car in circles for a few hours. And apparently the insurance companies recognize that risk as well. Am I alone on this????

www.theopentrack.com has liability insurance available. They also do 12 month policies which cover unlimited days of non-competition at about $3,100 for our cars. Adding liability is about $75/day or $1,000 for an annual.
I’ve found them to be cheaper on a daily basis, more expensive for a weekend vs. RLI/Hagerty/Lockton because those policies cover a three day event at a minimum, whereas you can actually buy a one day through open track. If you’re areal track junky, an annual policy through open track is a bargain. I’ve never filed a claim through any of them, so I can’t speak to that. For competition, Chizmark Larson insurance agency in Joliet Illinois took good care of me for One Lap. Policy covered all competition events. It wasn’t cheap though.

There is inherent risk in auto racing. That is why standard auto policies explicitly exclude it. My policy with All State has no wiggle room and will only cover a wreck in a racing venue's parking lot for non-participants.
The Hagerty (RLI) policies have 10-15% deductibles and cost $300-500 for each event. This only protects the vehicle in a serious (near total loss) event. SCCA members can be covered under the SCCA medical liability policy if it is an SCCA event. Membership is only $75. "All SCCA members are protected with the best event-related insurance program in motorsports at no additional cost. Properly registered SCCA members who are accidentally injured while participating at SCCA events are covered for up to $1 million in medical expenses. SCCA members, in certain circumstances, are also provided with limited third-party liability insurance coverage at most events." https://www.scca.com/downloads/40383...mmary/download You might consider Autocross racing or something with a much lower chance of collision. https://www.scca.com/pages/find-your-fun
