I know some folks just don't like guns or aren't accustomed to them, but for me, it's with me everywhere I go. When I leave the house, it's car keys, phone, wallet and gun, it's just natural. I couldn't imagine living in a place where some higher up decided for me that I can't protect myself, what a shame and it's completely unconstitutional.

I have carried for almost 15 years as well, my ritual is the same. My gun is always near me unless I am in my actual work office. Making sure I have my gun on me is part of making sure I have my watch on, my wallet with me, my knife on me, my cellphone and my vehicle keys on me.

It's a matter of perspective. Maybe I feel like a mobile island of having the option to affect my environment if I am armed. I have a level of training well above the norm, and people that know me feel like I am a person of sound judgment.

Another poster mentioned Reginald Denny, and I think that if you are beyond a certain age, the memory of watching a guy who was just trying to earn a living pulled from his work truck and beaten to within an inch of his life had a profound impact on some people's perceptions of their security in our society, and the limitations of our government and its ability to protect us when it matters most. As someone who actually sees "Florence" and "Normandie" printed in white on blue reflective street signs fairly often, it means even more to me than most. The city that I work in was hit hard by looting and arson in the 1992 riots.

There's a mountain of difference between looking for trouble, and being prepared for it if it finds you.

I usually go sans holster while carrying in the Camaro. No passengers my CC is on passenger seat. Got someone riding with me I go IWB on left side - butt forward , it’s cross draw for a right hand pull. Most comfortable position I’ve found so far. And I’ve carried .380 upto full size 1911. Look into ClipDraw for ultra conceal while carrying and forget the holster. Carrying is about simplicity and quickness to action while being safe.

I am scheduling my CC, but figure there is no great place to holster in my SS.
I wish there was a good place for my Cell....

I'm a big longtime fan of the Kramer Horsehide Scabbard / Pancake holster for carry, but these ZL1 seats don't share the same fondness. This isn't a big problem for me like most you fellas as my Camaro is not a daily driver. I can sit comfortable with just the strapped on leather, but it truly sucks once holstered!!

https://www.kramerleather.com/collec...e-gun-holsters

I'm old school and my preferred carry is a customized 1911 commander, but move to a G23 when I fall into the Z. It's a RTF2 model & stays 'planted' underneath the seat & almost acts like velcro due to the aggressive finish. The commander wants to skate on even the slightest corner.

Anyway, thought I would throw it out there if anyone is considering under the driver and/or try another sidearm with a textured finish if it previously was walking around.

[QUOTE=ninetres;10264127]I love the “it’s never happened to me”, or “change your environment if it’s dangerous” answer for not carrying a firearm. That’s fantastic you’ve never been vicitimized. But to be so shortsighted to ignore the reality that people are victimized this country, every single day is fairly ignorant. Just this week my local police dept arrested a man who kidnapped, and raped a woman while she held a 1-year old she was babysitting. This happened in broad daylight, in a neighborhood filled with million+ Dollar homes in the nicest part of town. Things can happen when you least expect it. I’m not sure where you can ensure risk to yourself or your family doesn’t exist. Malls? Shopping centers? Sports events/concerts? Your home? Risk exists everywhere.

I appreciate that you love the "it never happened to me" comment I made. But I take exception to your shortsighted and "is fairly ignorant" comments as we know nothing of each other or the experiences that have molded our opinions of carrying a gun in our Camaro or not.

I happen to have lived and worked internationally, still travel internationally 50% of my time for work, and almost all my international travels and living abroad are in countries that do not have anything like our 2nd amendment. And they also don't have anything like the gun violence that is somehow unique to us. While I understand the 2nd amendment, and why it was written back in that day, and I have guns myself, my personal decisions are based on my experience. Much of it seeing how systems that are not like ours seem to work just fine. So I choose not to carry and don't feel safer that you choose do, but respect your American right. I don't see that as "short sighted", but informed from a worldly point of view that only international travel can teach.

Peace & good luck. I hope none of us have any reason for pulling a gun do the the risk you state fearing. And I hope you find the dream pistol mount many appear to want. I am amazed myself.

Developing national (and world) outlooks from your singular life experience is shortsighted in-and-of itself. You are an N=1. You also speak as if you’re the only American who has ever traveled or worked abroad. This is the freest country in the world. Of course “gun crime” would be numerically higher here than in a country that doesn’t allow guns. That isn’t a revelation only beknownst by someone who has X,XXX days of travel abroad. It’s common sense. But the reality is meaningful gun crime statistics are exceedingly rare when you examine the number of guns per capita in this country, and gun violence outside of gang activity and suicide. EXCEEDINLY rare statistically.

This will turn into a gun thread pretty quickly, yet one thing that makes America great is that we all have certain inalienable rights. It’s great that somebody feels that they will never need a gun. God bless ‘ya, that’s a wonderful feeling. Yet other don’t feel that way. I’ve carried a gun for 35 years, sometimes in a professional capacity and often times (likely influenced by that professional capacity) because I have the God given right to do so.

Whether it’s the 2nd Amendment, whether it is where you live, whether it’s because you feel like it, everyone has a reason to carry (or not) a gun. Heaven forbid that you ever need one and don’t have it, yet in order to be ready for time that you might need it? You need to be prepared and have practiced. Every now and again I’ll see a thread online where somebody says, “but why do you carry a gun?’ My answer is always the same... “why do the police carry guns?” It’s a just in case thing.

Somebody above mentioned the Kramer Leather paddle - more properly referred to as the “MSP” (Michigan State Police) paddle holster. It’s awesome and I’m a huge fan of this holster and have used one for more than twenty years. Another favorite, especially for a 1911? Milt Sparks VMII IWB holster.

Finally, as an aside, traveling internationally to anyplace other than a tourist Mecca should more than justify why the 2nd Amendment is so cherished by many in America.

For anyone who wonders why we carry guns on our person or in our cars, the answer is simple...

Because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

exactly. "I carry a gun because I can't carry a police officer"

My firearm and training is right there with insurance, and surge protectors, and lightning arrestors, and a cabinet filled with advil/pepto bizmol/goody powders/etc.

I don't always need this stuff. I spend most waking moments glad I don't need them. But when I do...

also on the plus side, I like shooting guns. I love going through targets. I love perfecting my craft. As much as it may be protection, or whatever you feel comfortable calling it, I enjoy owning it and using it for fun, be it target shooting, 3 gun, tannerite, or whatever else.

If you are an individual that doesn't enjoy this, good on you, I'm sure there is something you enjoy as much as I enjoy this. probably much cheaper too.

So true! I've spent a lot of quality time teaching my son how to shoot. By his tenth birthday, he achieved his Winchester/NRA 'Distinguished Expert' certification with a pistol! We get a lot of comments from fellow shooters at the range about how he shoots better than they do. Then after range time, we enjoy the gun cleaning time on the patio. I start training my younger son next weekend!

Hey it can happen in all places even small 1 light towns across the country. . I live in Texas and I'm sure just like california there are killers and theives at almost every turn. So instead of complaining about our friendly chat about where to properly secure our weapons for protection on our beautiful cars just say nothing . If you dont like guns that's your right and i support your right. Im not carrying a weapon to be cool.they can have the car and the money but any attempt on my families safety will be met with severe consequences. Nuff said
