Trunk Water Leak

Hi Guys,

I've had a persistent water leak in my trunk for the last 3-6 months .Every time it rained there was a solid 2-4 inches of water almost up to the middle of the fuse box. I took it into the dealership before my bumper to bumper expired and they said they fixed it, but the problem just got worse.

The warranty expired 6k miles ago.

I called the dealership twice to complain about the leak after they fixed it and they said "oh let me check with the service manager and get back to you" - guess what, never got a call back for an appointment

Fast forward to two days ago and the car wouldn't start. 100% dead, won't even unlock. Can't jump it.

I get in manually and can instantly smell burnt electronics. Fuse box obviously got taken out - I even see corrosion on the fuses themselves.

Got it towed to the dealership and here's what they say:

"we found two water leaks which are different from what you had last time - one seems to be the weather stripping on the trunk door - apparently you pulled it out with a heavy object and there's another leak too"

Sidenote, I'm peculiar with my car - I don't haul heavy shit and I would have noticed if I pulled out my weather stripping.

"my service manager decided to cover the fuse box and labor to put it in under the warranty"

(why if the warranty expired and it's supposedly my fault?)

"Your battery is also showing low cranking amps and your ground wire was loose and arcing, total comes to $597 - battery is 297, installation 37, and the rest is a diagnostic fee for diagnosing the three issues"

I'm baffled. My car has NEVER EVER had a problem starting before. Why is the battery bad NOW? I made it extremely clear that I won't be buying a battery from them and just need the warranty issue fixed.

"we'll still have to charge the diagnostic fee since he diagnosed the three issues"

Thoughts?

Jesus, did you charge the work? If so, call and dispute the charge. That's BS, they can't charge you for something you didn't bring the car in for. It's clear the water infiltration caused the issue.

To be fair they did tell me that there was going to be a diagnostic fee but this was while they were under the assumption that the issue wasn't covered by warranty.

OMG, what the heck? If the problem occurred prior to your warranty expiring and you brought this to their attention prior to the warranty expiring, you should not be required to pay. They never resolved the issue.

Dealership got back to me, they will charge me the diagnostic fee and there’s no way of getting out of it. I don’t understand why I have to pay to get a warranty issue resolved. I never have issues that they’re talking about, and I can’t help but feel like there’s scamming me into covering their mistake. Does anyone want to help me pressure them into leaving to see you by leaving a bad review or something?

I don't know the procedure but you can escalate the issue with GM.

im pretty sure that i would tell the service manager to give you the area reps number/e mail.let him know you are unhappy and going to contest being charged for repair of something that should have come under bumper to bumper warranty and was documented before your warranty period passed.

I did and GM nicely told me that the dealership is free to charge me a diagnostic fee since I’m out of warranty. I reaffirmed the situation and asked if it made any sense. The rep said no, not at all. Sorry we couldn’t do anything to help.

I’m baffled

Their line is that they diagnosed issues that aren’t covered under the warranty.

I’m just trying to picture a scenario from their perspective where I take my car without paying. They’ve made this airtight and even GM won’t back me up
