I would guess a lot of the reason behind people buying the "wrong car" is that the dealers won't allow people to test drive them.

The only way to get a test drive is to find a dealer with a used one.

But, as I stated, this is a guess. I have a "regular" ZL1 with a manual. The "bog" is real, but not THAT bad. At least not on mine. After I recoup from vacations and back to school shopping this summer, I do plan to purchase a TM throttle body and see if that helps the bog as much as others have claimed.

Would I have bought a ZL1 1LE instead? Sure, if I could have bought one for no more than $63k out the door. I had a strict budget I had to adhere to, and I could not find a ZL1 1LE for what my wife and I agreed I could spend.

Thus, I ended up with my VR ZL1 M6 with PDR and no sunroof. And I love her (both the car her, and the wife her... )

:-)

Troll or not, I think the main reason you already see used ZL1 1LEs alreay is some buy them thinking this is the coolest and baddest ZL1 but don't consider that there are compromises that must be made to make the ZL1 1LE one of the fastest stock track cars on the planet. Then they start driving the car and realize their mistake. The same thing happens to the SS 1LE and the C7 Grand Sport.

Most of what I read here is tracksters who buy the 1LE ZL1 and know what they are buying are thrilled. Also this car will not have the same high depreciation rate as the 5th gen Z/28 as it has the luxo goodies most people want.

Yea, the M6 bog is there but only has an impact at the drag strip. It has zero effect on a track with curves. There is not a fix coming for this. That made me choose the A10 over the M6 and that choice was a good one. I enjoy driving my plush riding comfortable A10 monster. Am I getting old?

The top speed stuff is just silly.

A lot of it are probably people that got in over their heads in terms of debt. They are a bargain, but they're not exactly affordable, relatively speaking of course.

This. I can afford my ZL1 stroke.....but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to contemplating how nice going back to no car payment would be (I have a company car, and C5 that I own).

I have never purchased a GM car, as a die hard performance nut, I love high hp sportbikes, I have test drove a 6 speed ZL1 and ZL11LE , I punched one in 3rd or 4th gear and it torqued right and then tucked it's rear, it made me a little nervous. With that said when I rode a new 99 Hayabusa it shocked me and scared me, I bought a new 2002 and after 2 years it was a 1397cc 196 hp 115Tq sleeper and I loved it for 12 years, I ride a 14R now. Long story short if you enjoy performance you will master it, Intimidating yes ! But before It runs me off I will respect it ,but not fear it, and make it my B**** ! Most people want cool stuff, but can't handle what it has to offer !

Yeah, the raw power will scare the pants off many. Knowing the vehicle, it's limitations and the road is key.

Beleive it or not the ZL1 was my first new car purchase. I was 32, have bought many used vehicles. Somehow i managed to order my own. Let me tell you buddy, living dont get much better than a 6th gen Zl1 in the spring with the sunroof open and the windows down.

Anything about the ground clearance between the 1LE and the regular?
Never seen a post on that one...
19” and new suspension
Vs 20” and MRC
My guess is that less ground clearance and rough ride for daily use is a point ;-)

You can't compare ride of ZL1 with that of ZL1 1LE - its no where near the same.

It feels like a car on coilovers with 1000 in-lbs springs! If tires are cold.. and I say that meaning on 100 degree day, turning out of your driveway --- the tires are COLD! They chatter and skip across the pavement. It's few miles down the road before they behave better. It's few laps before they are warm. I fixed that problem fast, other set of wheels with pilot sports.

How many who commented here don't drive a ZL1 1LE.. but rather more pedestrian ZL1 w mag ride and its butter soft springs. But you boought track car -- not really, more of a positive press magazine numbers car.

On upside, insurance is rather reasonable, for some reason, mustang was even less when compared to bmw, audi name plates of similar performance.
