Road America Lap Time Expectations
Today I was getting the Traqmate set in the car for first track outing in the ZL1 next weekend at Road America. I was reviewing my times from my last session last year at Road America. Got me to thinking what reasonable lap times for a stock ZL1 (other pads, brake fluid and alignment) would be at Road America. The only times listed in the track time thread are for SS 1LEs a 2:36.75 and a 2:38.54. By way of reference at my last track day in an E46 M3 (on Pirelli slicks) the best lap was a 2:36.2 with consistent 2:36/37 laps.
Anybody in a ZL1 run RA? Lap times? What should be realistic for a lapping day in a stock car?

Last weekend the GT4 Camaro's ran best laps of right around 2:20. Those are 480hp, 3130 lbs, running 305 Pirelli slicks, aero, Ohlins etc etc. I have a hard time envisioning only 8 sec a lap slower than those cars run.

Hey there Mark......I'm still working on my "Driver Mod"
but I can tell you my experience last fall.First time on the track with the ZL1 1LE - but fairly familiar with the course - my best time of my 8 sessions on track was a 2:34.40. Was running Hoosier R7's at that time. Now having some more seat time with this car, and running Pirelli DH slicks, I am targeting a 2:30 and if I can manage anything that starts with a 2:29 I would be thrilled. As you know having a lot of experience at RA.....anything 2:29 or under is really, really strong for a factory car. I would expect you to be quicker than your E46, and you are going to love the car. That said.....the 3,950lbs and 650HP is a much different car so give yourself some time to learn it. I'm guessing by Sunday you will have it all sorted out! Looking forward to seeing you there.

Well folks.....Mark and I were "speculating" about lap times at RA for an event we we're attending two weekends ago. Mark has since made a great thread regarding his experience with the car and his feedback. I know he had a blast.....and the car (and Mark!) performed great because I watched him tearing it up out there!
As I said in my prior post in this thread....was hoping for anything under 2:30. I was thrilled with a 2:28:84! ![]() Had a great weekend and the car performed exceptionally. Had my best lap times in the morning sessions each day.... got fairly warm and humid and it did effect supercharger performance and HP (but never even reached 210 on the temp gauge). Turned a 2:29:95 as well. Consistent 2:30's and 2:31's. Really pumped for the next RA event....now I'm chasing a 2:27! I know where a couple seconds are....just gotta make myself do it. ![]() Had a complete 4 wheel off in the kink on Saturday, and survived, drove through it just like they teach you to. But....scared the $hit out of me for a bit before I calmed back down!! These are amazing cars...thanks Al O. and Team Camaro!!

Great times! Nice consistent laps at place it that has a lot of turns and a lot of place to mess up. I was sideways for a bit coming out of 6 in my last session! Looking forward to seeing you there in September!!

Under 2:30 is crazy fast for a factory car at RA. Nice job guys.
And 4 wheels off on the kink......yikes. Out of curiosity, what does a ZL1 1LE do through the kink? That aero should really help keep the speed up on some of RAs faster corners.

I think I was the guy you mentioned running a 2:36 in the SS 1LE. I’ve since been back and ran a 2:35. Both in my friends 2017 1LE. I picked up my own 1LE this past Friday (Dec. 21st) and cant wait to get back out on track. To answer Sleeks question, kinda, I was able to hit the kink at one point doing 113 mph. The ZL1 should be able to accomplish more than that easily.
