Running CAI without revised tune?

I got a flex fuel tune done last week, and about to pick up an rotofab intake off of a user here.

Question is will I run lean running the intake without a revised tune?

-my tuner said I might.

I've been running a CAI for over a year with no tune.

Rotofab is the only one proven to not need a tune. You will get more power with a tune, but the fueling is safe without a tune.

Compare the inner diameters of the air sensor intake location from what you've got to the intake you're considering. If it's the same then you should be fine.

That is only part of it. If you search on this forum you will see the work/research certain people have done regarding the Rotofab.

Isn't the diameter the same on the RF hence no tune required? My understanding is that the tune has always been to correct and true the air flow reading of the MAF since it's inserted in a piece instead of having its own plastic tube housing.

The diameter is not the only thing that affects airflow over the MAF. Yes the diameter being the same is important, but if the air is turbulent over the MAF then the fueling will be way off. If you look at the quality intakes you will see fins before the MAF to straighten the air out and keep it consistent.

If it were as easy as just the diameter, one could just pick up some PVC from Homedepot and cheapo filter from jeggs and have a CAI for under $75.

You are fine with RF for sure. Best intake out there!

Did you ever install the RF intake? Im in the same predicament as you. Been tune on e85 and longtubes for a while but was wondering if installing and intake would require a "retune". Also have a pray ported I/M and T/B.

No it won't require a retune... your fuel trims might go positive some but not enough that it will hurt anything. I adjusted the maf table on mine after installing the RF just so it was perfectly dialed in, but the car ran fine either way.

Rotofab will work fine without a tune. Fuel trims were in the acceptable range even with a ported TB/IM.

CAI on the other hand...
