Alignment

For those of you that daily drive their car and do the occasional track day, do you have the stock alignment in place and just ask them to max out camber up front, or do you do the full track alignment?

Any worry about excess tire wear with the full track alignment - my friend said he was worried about the track toe causing wear.

Street for FE4 says toe should be 0.2+/-0.2
Track for Fe4 says toe should be 0.1+/-0.05

Seems track is closer to zero than street which may make toe wear better than street (or maybe I just don't understand alignment).

Thanks all

I run the same [track-biased] alignment all the time. This platform on the GM recommended street alignment feels very neutered. My tire wear is perfectly acceptable. If you never take any corners then of course the inboard shoulders will wear quicker.

Your friend is confused regarding toe-induced wear. Less toe = less tire wear.

Ditto here re track alignment all the time. G3s are pretty soft tires anyway (read: wont really last all that long regardless), but i would guess one would wear out the outside shoulder faster with occasional track day with street alignment vs inside shoulder with track alignment all the time - on the street.
At best it is a compromise and any spirited driving will lean towards better tire wear with full track vs street alignment. And as Ryephile has mentioned above: the car feels and handles much better with track alignment - by far.

I also run the track alignment for daily driving, as those above me have said it feels much better and doesn't to seem to have a huge negative impact on tire wear.

Same here, run track alignment 100% of the time and no issues with any uneven tire wear or anything.

I am interested in this topic as well. Just got my 2ss back in February and noticed it is pulling a bit to the left so I am going to be taking it in for an alignment pretty soon. so you guys are saying that it is better to run the track specs than street specs for alignment on a daily driver that is not tracked at all?

also, are the specs different for MRC?

I'm headed to the alignment center then! What are the track specs front and back?

The track specs are in your performance supplement. Here is a scanned copy.

Without track use you'll probably see the inside wear more than the outside of each tire over time, but having toe closer to 0 will make the wear slower overall. No different specs for MRC vs non-MRC, just by overall vehicle trim level.

Should be in the high performance supplement that came with your car, maybe even in the owners manual? I don't remember about the owners manual... You'll want that physically available anyways for the alignment tech to reference as they're doing the alignment. Depending on the shop, they might not do a "non-standard" alignment without documentation from manufacturer.

Get the track alignment.
If you start to notice too much inside tire wear, have them back off the negative camber a little. You should be able to find a happy medium that gets decent tire wear while giving you good handling.
Alignment can be sort of a personal setting.
If you do tons of highway you might want something more conservative than someone who commutes on the Tail of the Dragon daily.

The stock tires wear pretty quickly. If I get good even wear on mine I'll add more negative camber until I start to notice the insides wearing too much, then back off a little.

It's why alignment specs have such a wide range for camber settings, and so little for toe and caster. Toe's more wear causing, caster difference side to side will give you pull.

I've run my track settings 100% of the time.

The key to lots of camber is keeping close to 0.0 toe. That way the shoulders of the tire wont scrub off immediately. How I set up all my cars.

The only compromise would be a dedicated track car would likely have some toe out (and even more camber likely).

For an amateur track day track day hooligan like myself, my main goal is making tires last longer vs shaving .01 seconds from the lap time.

The picture are the specs I was able to get with just the adjustment available in the car. The FR was able to get to -2.6 camber but backed it off to match the max of the FL.

Car has almost 11k miles, roughly 14 hours of track time between NASA events and free lapping. Likely fine for another event or two though 3 would be pushing it.

That is pretty awesome mileage for track duty. A good solid street performance alignment should yield 13-15K miles. If I can get 13K out of a set on the street, I would be super happy.
