2018 ZL1 1Le

Aloha Everyone,

I am new to this forum. My name is Jaymz.
I am wondering if anyone can help me out.
I have a 2018 ZL1 1Le and I am wondering what are the best tires to run on the street for this car. I have saw many reviews and everyone is claiming that the stock tires are to much for the street and not safe to drive in the rain with these.
I live in Honolulu and we don't have a track here so I would like to save the tires for the track on the mainland. I will be shipping the car to run on track so I won't see the track much but while here in Hawaii I would like to run some street tires on this car.

Thanks
Jaymz

Go to the Michelin PS4S. You can still use these on the track (probably will be 8/10ths that of the OEMs). ** When you get the car, even if you do not change the front camber plate to TRACK... get the car aligned.

Yes the michelin pilot sport 4s. When I went to the corvette school at the Ron Fellows driving school in Nevada for the purchase of my Z06 they had the older version of the pilot sport 4s on the Z06 I drove and I was lifting the inside rear wheel off the ground and never once thought I was limited on tire. I run the Michelin pilot sport 4s on my zl1 1le and love them.

Check out the new Bridgestone S007A at tire rack. Supposed to have better dry handling than the Michelin P4S, but still do okay in the rain. You sacrifice a little rain performance for better dry handling. This was information I got from Tire Rack before buying them. The are Extreme performance ranked tires. That's one level higher than P4S but in step lower than OEM tires on the ZL1 1LE. Plus they are cheaper too.

These are what I plan to run on the street.

Those ghosted side markers look sexy. Your Dads car looking good too.

Why the PS4S? I know that you do not drive her in the rain. Honestly, my Dad has Cup 2s on his 2012 ZR and they are exceptionally sticky. You have to let me know your thoughts on the 4Ss on the ZLE.

IMHO, those 3Rs are very special. I know that they will go away fast, but I promised myself that I would not worry about gas, tires and pads.

On an off thread note; Spring Mountain/Fellows should offer a class for ZL1 owners. They offer it for the base Stingray; why not the ZL1?
Just saying.

The 3rs once hot are awesome. It just takes too long on a 70 degree day in NH (morning temp on a 70 degree day can start in the 40s) to get them hot on the street. With the michelins I can drive normal for about a mile then they are ready to go. I took the clear bra installer for a ride in early may and I was 4 miles down the road and stood on it in 2nd and was completely sideways with the 3rs. I do not have that problem with the michelins. I saved the 3rs on the original rims for the track.

I agree Chevy should have given the zl1s or at least the zl1 1les a trip to the Ron Fellows School.

How do the S007A compare to the RE71R? Are they available in stock ZL1 1LE sizes?

Yes they are available in the stock ZL1 1LE size. These are supposed to be between the RE11A and the RE71R.

I run the Michelin Pilot Super Sports for the street and have no complaints. 1st gear will spin briefly, but 2nd hooks. They are also cheaper than the ps4s. Even in socal the 3rs took forever to heat up... they skated all over the place and will definitely be my track set.

Stoked to hear that you are healing up and manipulating that clutch with ease. Be well!

I suppose that I am blessed down here on the 20th parallel. 3Rs warm up fast here. Mine is very unlikely to see the rain, that definitely plays a roll.

No Tire Rack here, however I can get the Michelins (MP4S, MPSS and Cup2s) at Costco. Shipping those sticky GYs here may play a role in my next set of shoes. Maybe not, the grip is phenomenal.
