This is what I am looking at - instead of adding a octane booster, I am thinking if adding 2 gallons of VP race gas to my 17 gallons of 91 octane = from the octane calculator it stated that is the ratio (2 gal 110 octane to 17 gallons 91 octane = 93 octane) - VP Racing Fuel Unleaded Extreme - 110 Octane up to 15:1

I have this as a pump gas at my local Exxon for 8.99 a gallon ( I think I am still researching this - the dopes at the gas station have no clue)

Also I want to use the top tier detergent gas, however I am having trouble knowing what is and what is not - I use the 91 octane premium at Exxon, however it does not say anything about whats in it -

You can find all the top tier brands on line. Exxon premium is a top tier gasoline.

I've been adding this since the 1st tank full. No scientific evidence but, peace of mind.

Don't use Octane booster if you can help it. Just use the race gas as you said. I know places in Oklahoma that sell 7 octanes. 87 to 93 and everyone in between. The pumps blend according to want you want using the 87 and 93. They don't have a specific middle grade.

I run 93 "the hard way" more often than I care to admit in my ZL1.

"The hard way" is basically a blend of 4.25 gallons of 100 octane unleaded racing gasoline (at 8 to 9 bucks per gallon) mixed with the rest of a tank of 91 octane premium unleaded. This averages the blend to 93 octane.

But in light of some fresh information from a reliable source, I have modified this to 2.5 gallons of 100 to a tank of 91, with no noticeable degradation in performance.

The source, a new hire at our place, pointed out that the octane rating advertised on gas pumps is basically the MINIMUM octane. Because in it's journey to the gas pump, that gasoline can sometimes be mixed with small quantities of lower grade gasoline in the tanker truck, pipelines, or elsewhere on it's journey to the gas pump. California occasionally has agents from the state and county test pumps for accuracy and sample fuels to verify content. There could be sanctions if a particular supplier delivers fuel that tests low.

So, to be assured that the gas you pump is at least 91 octane, this particular company blends their premium to 92 octane when it's delivered to the truck rack, the last stop before it goes into a truck for delivery to a station. I suspect most companies do.

When I get confirmation from my friends in the refinery on this, I'll share what I learn.

There's a direct quote in the owners manual stating that power as well as gas mileage are reduced using 91 with the LT4.

At sea level. As you go up in altitude air density decreases and so do cylinder pressures requiring less octane. That’s why lower octanes are sold at higher altitudes. At 3000’ he’s good with 91 octane.

Little off topic,I see on the inside of the fuel door it says 91+min, but then there's a 95+ron. Is that recommended? Can someone elaborate? Here in California, hard to find higher than 91 and was thinking of running octane booster, however was fortunate to find a commercial station with 100 sunoco. Also thinking of mixing it

95 RON and 91 MON are the same octane but different scales of measurement. MON is what we use in the US.

Truth. You see a lot of "regular" unleaded at 85 octane in the Rocky Mountains.

Every time I put octane booster in the check engine light comes on. The senor does not like that I force the fuel cap open to pour it in.

I think it ran better
